(More customer reviews)I never considered buying a bike mail-order before, but a special promotion for Amazon credit card holders made it too good of a deal not to try. I am glad I did! The bike arrived in a fairly beat up box but the components were in good condition without any damage. The bike comes 80% assembled. All you have to do is install the handle bars, front wheel, pedals, and seat. The brakes, derailleur, chain, etc. are all pre-assembled. It comes with a owner's manual that has a reasonably good set of assembly instructions (it could use a few more illustrations, in my opinion) with one exception: it does not tell you how to open up the front brakes so that you can install the wheel. I ended up disassembling the brake, which you do not need to do. Search the internet for "linear brake assembly" or similar and you will find instructions (and pictures!) that show you how to open up the brake. It's very simple and should have been in the Schwinn directions. You can probably put the bike together in 10-15 minutes if you know what you are doing. It took me considerably longer than that because of the issues I had with the front brake.
The bike is at the low end of the Schwinn line, and might even be the cheapest bike they make, but it seems to be well constructed and well suited for my purpose: riding around town on paved roads. It has a steel frame, which makes the bike heavier than aluminum or composite framed bikes, so that might be a factor to consider if you plan on frequently hoisting the bike up onto a roof rack (not a factor for me). It has a shock absorber on the front that does a nice job of soaking up minor bumps. The tires have a good thickness to them which also helps make the ride comfortable. The gears shift smoothly and easily, though are not perfectly aligned with the numbers on the dial (I'm sure that can be adjusted). The brakes have a nice pull to them and stop the bike smoothly, quickly, and quietly. The seat is comfortable and the tires have good grip on pavement.
Overall I am quite happy with the bike and recommend it if you are looking for a relatively inexpensive bike for casual riding on paved surfaces.

The Right Size Fit is crucial for comfort, control, and proper power and endurance on a bike. Here are some basic bike fit tips:
Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height.
Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Measure from the center of your fist to the end of your collarbone (the part that intersects your shoulder). Next, measure your torso by placing a book against your crotch with the spine facing up. Measure from the spine to the bottom of your throat (the spot between your collarbones). Finally, add the two measurements (arm length + torso length), divide the number in half and subtract six inches. This is your approximate top tube length. Compare this number to a bike's posted top tube length. You can allow for about two inches longer or shorter, as most bikes can be adjusted via stem length/height and saddle fore/aft position to make fine adjustments to the fit.
Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance.

Kawasaki Girl's K20G 20-Inch Bicycle Review

(More customer reviews)My daughter is petite; so, we got her this pricey 5-speed bike with 20-inch wheels for xmas 2008. Item arrived well-packaged but with a few friction marks. I had to install the front wheel, seat, pedals, water bottle cage, and handlebar. I broke them down to these steps.
1. Front wheel looked straight but the wheel did not spin freely. I had to regrease and repack the wheel bearings.
2. Handlebars installed easily. The cables and shifters are pre-installed; I just had to loosen the adjusting bolt and the handlebar slipped into place.
3. Pedals screwed in easily.
4. Seat had to be adjusted to correct angle. The bolts are hard to get to, but hopefully, you only need to do this once.
5. Water cage is flimsy and I hate where it goes 'cause the water bottle gets dirt and grime really fast.
6. Brakes. The V-brakes are strong but I had to adjust the front brakes. I've always found cantilever and V-brakes a clumsy burdensome ordeal. These were no exception. If you don't have the patience to do it right, take the bike to a bike mechanic and get them set right the first time.
7. The travel on the brake levers was too much for my daughter's small hands. On her maiden voyage I saw her struggle to grasp the levers to come to a stop. Turning the adjustment screws all the way in was still not enough. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me longer adjustment screws. That did the trick. So, you may want to keep an eye on your brake levers. Lever to outside of handlebar should be no more than three inches. My mtn bike and hybrid bikes are 3.5. This bike was originally set at about 3.75 - way too large a gap for a 10 year old.
Now that the bike is finely tuned, it rides great. My daughter loves it and it rides well and stops on a dime. The bike is heavy, but the extra gearing will compensate for that. Again, I only got this bike because my daughter is petite and quickly out grew a single-speed 20-inch bike, but she is not big enough to jump on a 24-inch bike. This will tie her over for a couple more years.
I ride and work on my own bikes; I have a tandem, hybrid, mountain and even a lowrider bike. I have the tools and knowledge to make all the necessary adjustments to make this bike road worthy. I feel this bike should have been put together better at the factory than in the condition I received it - I should not have had to touch the bearings and brakes. Most buyers should consider taking this bike to a qualified bike mechanic.

I biked 1/2 way up my super steep hill with no problem. The set up wasn't too hard. I have never worked on a bike before and with a few tools I was able to but on the front tire, pedals and handle bars. The seat is very comfortable. I am 5'6 and with a slight adjustment to the seat this bike fits me perfectly. The seat is very uncomfortable so I ordered a new seat. The gears don't transition very smoothly and whenever i peddle i feel a tiny thump in one of the peddles. The grippy handles are uncomfortable. I should have worked a few extra weekends so I could have bought a more expensive bike. Without a doubt, if I rode this bike on rough terrain it would break.

Is was not so hard to assemble the bike because the hardest parts were already assembled up for you. While, you do need some tools,like wrench and hex keys.I bought them on Amazon for a few bucks.
The bike is beautiful and cool. I'm a collage student, male. I don't consider this bike the "Ladies-only". Actually, all my friends think it is a good bike for both male and female.
In a word, I'm very happy with this buying. I recommend this bike to you, whatever gender you are.

Pacific Exploit Front Suspension Girl's/Women's Bike Review

Let me preface this by saying, I have ridden for many years with a bike club. I have also been a bike mechanic and have worked on all sorts of bikes from high end carbon fiber road bikes, to aluminum frame, chrome-moly, and good old fashion steel bikes.
I have put together many off the rack production bikes. This one by far is the worst.
DESIGN FLAW:
The geometry of the bike is such that the crank arms and pedals place are only 3 inches from the front tire. This 3 inches is WITHOUT your feet in position. For a normal 12 year old child, and I measured this, their shoe front is JUST 1/2 INCH AWAY FROM THE FRONT TIRE!!! This has disaster written all over it. I mean what child can ride in perfect foot position. The only fix for this is toe clip cage. Most 12 year old children can't ride with toe clip cages, or will not use them.
CRAFTSMANSHIP:
Each of the rims for the tires were wavy. The deviation was slight greater 1/4 from center. Steel rims are difficult to true. Even on a truing stand, you can't remove the blip. The problem is from the manufacturer. Also the decals were ripped and applied with bubbles and wiped off with a dirty greasy rag. The paint job had many dings and scratches from either manufacturing, packaging or shipping. I would think the two aforementioned.
The brakes on this bike are a joke. Linear pull brakes are cheap form of braking. Shimano has a version called the V brake. The problem lies in this: Cheap or poorly-specified linear pull brakes can suffer sudden catastrophic failure when the noodle end pulls through the metal stirrup. This will leave you with NO braking whatsoever!
Compared to side caliper brakes, these are very poor in function and design.
The components are poorly made. They are not not quality known manufacturers like Shimano, Campy, or SRAM.
CONCLUSION:
I am going to see what the company is willing to do. The problem this is a present for my child. She is in love with it. I can fix almost everything on this but the design flaw. I can only place the toe clip cages on there for her if in insists on keeping it.
Thus far, Pacific has not impressed me...nor other reviewers in this category. Looking at other models from them in this genre, 24" girl's bikes, they just don't seem to understand the market.
If I can't get satisfaction, I am probably going to look at HUFFY. For the most part, their off the rack bikes are okay.

(More customer reviews)My wife wanted an all-around bicycle that she can ride around our ranch on dirt roads, city bike trails, etc., of decent quality, but without spending too much $$ for lightweight alloys, superfluous extras and so forth. This bike is perfect for her, she loves it, it looks nice and seems to be reasonably durable and well made. Especially nice for her are the "pushbutton" gear changers. I noticed many reviews complain about assembly problems and needing to take the unit in to a shop for tuning. Apparently, Diamondback preassembles the bikes and tunes them because it went together perfectly and the gears worked the first time, everytime!! The only thing I would recommend for trail riding is replacing the provided innertubes with thornproof tubes...pretty cheap "insurance" at $7 each. Also, while the provided seat is OK, we'll probably buy a nice padded seat in the future.

(More customer reviews)When I got the bike I learned that I had to put the entire bike together, which was not fun. The directions were very unclear and did not help at all. Once I finally put the bike together I was exicited to take it for a ride only to find out that after ten mins of riding the bike seat is very uncomfortable. Now I am looking for a replacement seat. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE BIKE TO ANYONE.

Huffy 26-Inch Ladies DS-3 Dual Suspension Bike (Amethyst) Review

(More customer reviews)I don't normally provide reviews for items, but had such a disappointing experience with this product and Amazon that I just had to write about it. My wife and I were looking for an inexpensive mountain bike as a birthday present for our oldest granddaughter (she just turned 14). We found the Huffy 26-Inch Ladies DS-3 Dual Suspension bike and it looked like it fit the bill. We ordered it from Amazon with 5-7 business day shipping on the 26th of May. It arrived on June 6th, the day after our daughter's birthday party (I would chosen faster shipping, but the cost was exorbitant, and given that Amazon HQ's is in Seattle, I didn't expect it to be shipped from the East Coast!). At any rate, it was dumped on our driveway, so that my wife when she arrived home, had to lift the heavy box and move it out of the way. The box was torn, and had parts sticking out of the box, although not too much. When I had time a couple of days later to put the bicycle together, I was able to open the box and take out the components (there were various subassemblies that had already been put together), and it appearred that there was no significant damage, although there were small scratches on various components, and the parts were all very dusty. With all the sub-assemblies out, I started to look them over and was looking for the assembly instructions. There were none! I checked the box and packaging thoroughly. Still no instructions or owner manual. I contacted Amazon by phone. The person on the other end of the line told me that I could return the item. The box was apart, the present was already late, this was not the answer I wanted, and I was not willing to wait for another 2 weeks to receive an item that shouldn't have arrived the way it did. Moreover, all I wanted was instruction on how to put the bicycle together. I was eventually able to slowly figure out how the components went together with a largely unhelpful instruction guide that I managed to find on the Huffy website. I did take the bicycle over to my daughters house and my granddaughter is supposedly riding it, but I have no idea how well it will hold up.
All in all this was this was not a very pleasant experience either with Amazon, or Huffy. While my granddaughter is riding the bike, I wouldn't not recommend purchasing a bike from Huffy or through Amazon, based on my experience.

(More customer reviews)I ordered this because I'd seen another Amazon review saying the assembly was easy, and I was happy to find this is true for me too. Since there are no directions, I thought I'd do my part by giving other buyers a couple of tips. You will need a couple of hex wrenches -- I already owned one of those little Craftsman sets with all the sizes attached to the plastic grip handle. You will need the inch measurement ones, which is the set with the orange handle. This is the only tool required. You will need a pair of household scissors, too, and an air pump for the tires.
The bike will arrive with the handlebars detached and folded over by the cables and strapped to the bike frame with a plastic fastener strip. The front wheel and the seat post (with the seat already on) are also on the side of the frame. Cut the fastener strips off. To put the front wheel on, find the axle in the little cardboard box, put it through the wheel after uncrewing the axle cap so you can put it through the wheel. Now just put the axle through the front fork and flip the end lever on the axle to hold the front wheel on.
Put the seat post in, and then turn the lever on the band which adjusts the seat until you have the height and direction of the seat where you want it, and lock down the lever.
To put the handlebars on, first take the protective black cap off the end of the handlebar post. You do need to hold the handlebars just the right way because the cables are already attached, which is good in the long term. It took me about three minutes of trying several positions until I figured out how to slip the handlebar post in, but eventually the light bulb came on over my head and it was simple. Once they were in, it was a snap to put the handlebars where I wanted them. I took the protective little black cap off the adjustment nut at the top of the stem, and used the Craftsman allen wrench. Turning the nut makes the bottom of the handlebar stem 9down in the bike frame) expand and this holds the handlebars in position. After adjustment, put the protector cap back over the nut to keep the rain and dirt off the nut.
Now pump up both tires, and you are almost done. Now you just have to fasten the front brake cable. Use a smaller allen wrench from the Craftsman set to slightly loosen the nut which holds the cable, and thread the cable through the little holder bar on the left, and then put the cable back where it originally was, and tighten it. You can look at the back brakes to see how it goes.
The pedals are in the cardboard box with the axle for the front wheel, and they are labeled L and R so just match them to the L and R stickers on the crank arms, and screw in the pedals. You are done!
The whole thing did take me an hour, but that's because I had to figure it out. Now that you have the steps, you can do it all in half and hour, easy. Happy riding!

Polaris 600RR Women's Mountain Bike Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered this bike for my wife and it's a good one for the price. It's sturdy and easy to put together, however the front gear shift broke while I was adjusting it. I've ordered a new one and she can ride it in the meantime with just the rear gears, but even those are temperamental until I can adjust the front one. I put on a rear kickstand as the center stand seemed to get in the way a lot. Also, this frame is most suited for a taller female.
