Forge Edgmont Path and Mountain Frame Bike - 17.5" Review

Forge Edgmont Path and Mountain Frame Bike - 17.5
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this bike because I will be heading to Denver and needed a bike for transportation. I currently have several road bikes and a Cannondale mountain bike but didn't want to take the chance of having these bikes stolen on the trip. This was supposed to be my cheap bike that I wouldn't miss if it got stolen. Well, sorry to say, after just a week on my girl, I have grown an attachment to her and would be devastated if she was stolen, even though I paid just a little over 200 dollars for her. The bike arrived almost completely assembled and took me only about 20 minutes to get it out of the box and put together. However, I experienced major problems trying to adjust the derailleur. No matter what I tried the derailleur would make contact on either the lowest or highest gears, even after trying to make minor adjustments with the barrel adjusters. I am not a bike pro, but have had some hands on experience in maintaining bicycles, I followed the directions to a "T" and I still could not get the derailleur exactly as needed. I eventually gave up and settled for second best and am happy with that. Maybe I just don't have enough experience with derailleurs, but like I said, the adjustment is a step from perfect, and I am happy with that. As for the bike itself, I have ridden it on light trails and paved trails and roads within the last week. I don't get the same response as my Cannondale on the trails, but my Cannondale cost several thousand dollars, and I would certainly expect better performance with it. But, what I do get, is a reliable bike that handles fairly well for both road and trail and just has a good feeling and fit as I ride. I plan on changing out the seat, not meant to support my admittedly larger framed bottom, and I plan on changing the pedals.....very slippery, although I must admit I am used to pedals I have to clip into. For a several hundred dollar bike though, this bike does the job and does it well. One last comment, I am 5' 8" and this frame fit me perfectly.

I used to race motocross and have only done a little mountain biking. I found that I can ride as hard as I want up and down rocky paths and this bike performs. Components seem to be high quality considering the low price point. I've been very happy with this bike.

Men's Forge Sawback 5xx Mountain Dirt Bike - Charcoal (19") Review

Men's Forge Sawback 5xx Mountain Dirt Bike - Charcoal (19)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start out by saying that this is my first review for any of the many purchases I have made through Amazon.com. I never write reviews, but for this purchase, I felt the need to spread my story.
I will list my opinions, observations and experiences with each major part of the bike. As for me, I just started trail riding, but have been working with bicycles my entire life. I used to be a hardcore BMX freestyle rider, and I always put the quality of a bike and its components, comfort, and dependability before anything else. (Safety is important as well, but IMO, if it meets those three, it will be safe :) )
Frame: Appearance wise, it looks really good. It is definitely a different color than most bikes on and off the road. Almost like a light navy gray. The paint has held up pretty good so far, although I am extremely rough on this bike. Its already got a few scratches and dings, but no chipping or anything horrible. The welds are perfect, and I mean perfect. I have seen many bikes in this price range, and no welds have looked this good. The frame is very rigid, it doesn't have any give when jumping a curb or random log. It has drilled and tapped holes for two water bottle mounts, and for a rear rack. Overall, I give the frame 9/10. Minus one point not having more size options, even though it's perfect for me (5'11").
Tires: The tires are great for off-road/trail use. They will work on pavement, but you will quickly notice a really loud roar. I have already gotten one flat tube, from a really tiny thorn. I wouldn't expect these to handle a whole bunch of abuse, but for the average trail and road rider, they are fine. The tread is about half way gone, but I have put about 500 miles, on and off road. I give the tires 6/10. Better than a Wal-Mart tire, but not the best.
Rims: Awesomeness. Very, very tough. I have given these rims hell, and they keep on spinning. Light and just the right amount of give. WTB rims are some of my favorites. 9/10. Hubs are on the smaller side, but so far, super awesome.
Brakes: Super awesomeness! The brakes work amazingly well, wet or dry, dusty or clean. No noise, until about a week ago. My front disk is starting to make some vibration noise, but I haven't looked into it yet. Might be time to tighten it up. I bought a $250 bike from Wal-Mart.com that had disk brakes, and Lord... they were soooooo annoying! A loud screech at every stop. These are pretty great for the money. 8/10. Super strong.
Drivetrain: Gears. Gears. Gears. Times nine, equals, 27! Math is fun... Gears are fun... This bike can climb some STEEP hills... With no effort... Sitting down. No slips, no grinds, came perfectly tuned, and I almost couldn't stop riding. The Shifters work great, but there are no numbers on the display. Just an arrow and some lines. They work well though. Buttery. Like a burnt piece of toast with ice cream and butter on top. Or, like a finely tuned bicycle. 9/10. Keep it oiled...
OVERALL: "This bike feels really tight, well-made." My sister.
"Nice wheels!" Some guy in a park.
And I couldn't find better words. This is a great bicycle, and is overly well worth the money. Price some of it's components online and in local shops, and your mouth will look like this...... O ....... round-mouth, lol. Seat and grips are okay, but what the crap, it's a seat and grips. Overall, I get great satisfaction every time I ride this bicycle. I think you will, too.
LOCK IT UP WITH BIG CHAINS AND U-LOCKS!!!! PEOPLE CUT CABLES WITH ONE HAND, WHILE WAVING AT THE POLICE!!!!!!!!

Men's Forge Sawback Hard-Tail 5xx Mountain Bike - Matte Blue (19") Review

Men's Forge Sawback Hard-Tail 5xx Mountain Bike - Matte Blue (19)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Check out tons of reviews on the internet on this Sawback 5xx bike--the consensus is that this is an incredible bang-for-buck bike. It is. Its loads of fun.
I've had a carbon fiber Gary Fisher bike for year which I've been loyal to. That bike is just wonderful, and I've put serious time and miles on it. But I decided to just have a decent spare bike for friends who visit. I did the research and decided to take a chance on this bike.
The bike arrived about a week later. Assembly was super simple. I had to make some tweaks--its not going to be setup the way you like when you first get it. Right away I was impressed with the weight--this is not terribly that much more weight than my carbon fiber bike. One thing I didn't like were the shocks. I tightened up the shocks that come with the bike (RockShox Dart 1)--way too loose but not too bad when tightened to the max. At first I wasn't too impressed with the disc brakes either but after a few days of use they started working pretty good. I had to use them in action to really know.
After goofing off with the bike for a few days I had to put it to real use. I finally took the bike on some technical trails--both uphill and downhill. Wow, this bike is awesome. I mean for $400? Fugetaboutit! No regrets. This bike is NICE. It just works as a general all-mountain bike should. Worth every penny. I can't believe this is a bike sold through Target! Way to go Forge Bikes!!

Its been a while since I rode a bike and I didn't want to invest to much money into something that I might not enjoy using. I've got to tell you though, this bike is a great deal. It's attractive, light weight and handles very well. I have taken it on a 6 mile bike ride and it rode great going up the hills.
I would recommend this bike to everyone. My husband has a bike that cost 3 times the amount of mine, and it does not ride as well.

Men's Magna Glacier Point Mountain Bike - 26" Review

Men's Magna Glacier Point Mountain Bike - 26
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this bike three months ago for 70 dollars. I needed a bicycle to get me from my apartment to campus, and to tool around on on the weekend and the occasion fifteen mile ride. I've been very pleased with the bike so far. It is light and its ride is comfortable enough. It is fairly quick for being a mountain bike, but I wouldn't venture out on overly rough trails with it. I've had some problems with the derailers not shifting the front gears correctly, but my opinion is that the defect is product of shoddy assembly at the store I got it from, but it is easy enough to fix. The brakes aren't the best, but odds are the bike can't go fast enough to the point that this would be a serious health hazard. The tires are sturdy, and I've taken on six inch curbs with no damage to the bike or the tires. For seventy dollars the performance can't be beat, and I can say I have been very pleased with its performance. The furthest I have ever been out in one ride was fifteen miles, and it held up just fine.

I'm not sure about the previous post, but I am 6'0" and 210 lbs. and the bike fits me fine. I adjusted the seat and handle bars and it's the right size. The bike came patially assembled and the instructions were clear. It only took me an hour to assemble, but four hours to fine tune and re-tighten everything, including the steering head bearing and pedal bearing. The brakes and rear derailer took a long time to adjust properly, but in the end the bike rides nice. For the money the bike seems to be built tough and it looks good. Only time will tell how it will hold up, but so far I am happy with it.

Huffy Women's Granite Bike Review

Huffy Women's Granite Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We ordered this bike for my 10 year old daughter. The stickers on it weren't perfect. The spocket that the chain goes up and down on on the back wheel was broken in the first week with very little riding. We had thrown out the box. Amazon kindly sent us a new one and said we could disassemble the current bike and return it in that box. The shipping box on the new one was banged up and written on. The bike has a small scratch and imperfect decals. We aren't returning it again because it works and she likes the color. I was disappointed that it wasn't perfect. Next time, I'd perfer to buy from a store so it's easier to return. The price was good, but it's a little disappointing.

Schwinn Mesa GS Adult Mountain Bike Review

Schwinn Mesa GS Adult Mountain Bike
Average Reviews:

I bought this for my son for Christmas and it seems very solid. It wasn't too hard to put together, but the handlebar assembly was backwards and had to be redone. This bike had good reviews on some mountain bike review sites and it looks like it is a very solid bike, especially for the price range. It is not top of the line, but you are paying a bargain price for mid-level components on a decent aluminum frame.

Amazon.com Bicycle Buying Guide Finding the Right Bike To really enjoy cycling, it's important to find a bicycle that works for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when you're in the market for a new bike:
The Right Ride In general, bikes are broken down into three major categories:
Road and Racing Bikes--As a general rule, road and racing are built for speed and longer distances on paved surfaces. Thinner tires, lightweight 29-inch (700c) wheels, and drop bars that allow for a more aerodynamic position are the norm. Most road bikes, regardless of price, offer many gears for tackling both hilly and flat terrain.
Mountain Bikes--With their larger tires, hill-friendly gearing, and upright position, mountain bikes are very popular for all types of riding, both on pavement and off. Mountain bikes that are designed specifically for rugged trail use typically feature a suspension fork. Some may have rear suspension, as well. A quick change of the tires on any mountain bike--even one that you use regularly on trails--adds to its versatility and makes it a worthy street machine.
Comfort/Cruiser Bikes--For tooling around on bike paths, light trails, or for cruising a quiet beach-side lane, comfort/cruiser bikes are the ticket. With a super-relaxed riding position, padded seats, and limited or no gearing, these bikes are made for enjoying the scenery and having fun with the family.

The Right Price A bike's price boils down to three essentials: frame materials, bike weight, and component quality and durability.
Entry-level--You'll find a wide range of comfort and cruiser bikes in this category, as well as some lower-end mountain bikes and road bikes. Most will have steel frames and components that are designed to last for several years with frequent use.
Mid-range--Bikes in this range may feature a lighter aluminum frame with mid-range components that keep performing after miles of use. If you're looking for a quality bike that is relatively lightweight and will stand up to abuse, this is the "sweet spot." Most serious commuter and touring bikes fall into this category, as do mid-range mountain bikes with a decent front suspension.
High-end--Racers and serious enthusiasts who expect lightweight, high-performance components will want to stick to this category. For road bikes, exotic frame materials (carbon fiber, titanium) and ultralightweight components can add thousands to the price tag. Mountain bikes in this class often feature advanced front and rear suspension technology, as well as components designed to handle lots of rugged trail action.

The Right Size Fit is crucial for comfort, control, and proper power and endurance on a bike. Here are some basic bike fit tips:
Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height.
Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Measure from the center of your fist to the end of your collarbone (the part that intersects your shoulder). Next, measure your torso by placing a book against your crotch with the spine facing up. Measure from the spine to the bottom of your throat (the spot between your collarbones). Finally, add the two measurements (arm length + torso length), divide the number in half, and subtract six inches. This is your approximate top tube length. Compare this number to a bike's posted top tube length. You can allow for about two inches longer or shorter, as most bikes can be adjusted via stem length/height and saddle fore/aft position to make fine adjustments to the fit.
Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance.

The Right Accessories When you make a bike purchase, don't forget these crucial add-ons:
Helmet (this is a must!)
Seat pack
Lock
Hydration pack, or water bottle and bottle cage
Spare tubes
Portable bike pump
Gloves

Huffy 26-Inch Men's ATB Rival Bike (Black) Review

When we got this bike on our porch it looked like UPS literally dragged it behind his truck all the way here. The box was really banged up.
The bike itself looked really nice and strudy, although we never got to try it out. The back rim was bent so bad it would hardly roll and we were missing some parts which Huffy sent us before we noticed the back rim issue.
We ended up sending it back, but would definately have kept it if it were not for the rim and waiting for another bike to come to us in exchange.
I think for the price it is a good deal, if it comes to you all in one piece.

Mongoose Tyax Sport Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Review

Mongoose Tyax Sport Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this bike as after a short stint with a department store bike that even with a "full" suspension, does not hold a candle against the Tyax. Needless to say I needed something more reliable and actually listed in the Mongoose site (none of the department store's Mongoose bikes are listed). Ordered it at a LBS (amazon is great in shipping times but did not use it for this purchase) and got it within a week. As you can notice on the pictures, the bike simply looks beautiful. The welds on the frame are rock solid, adding to the sturdy feel of the bike. The suntour fork has a small travel adjustment and can be locked out for smoother rides, which imo is a huge plus. The disk brakes allow the bike to brake faster without messing with the rim and after several rides they still brake right on the spot. Took the Tyax for a ride in a local paved trail and the bike performed as expected from a bike in this price range: shifters kicked in smoothly, the saddle was not too unconfortable after long rides, brakes react right on time so on and so forth. However it wasn't until I took the bike off road that I truly appreciated this bike. Going uphill in a light trail (small loose rocks; not huge jagged rocks) seemed very effortless. The combination of the Kenda tires and the light frame made it very easy to climb. My previous department store bike had a "full" suspension, meaning that it has a frame shock absorber as well as a fork shock absorber. This made the bike heavy and at times annoying since it would bounce from the frame. The hardtail is a clear winner because it is a lighter, sturdier and just a cool looking bike. So if you're looking for something fun that will take some occasional punishment this is your bike.
