Maxxis Ignitor Mountain Bike Tire Review

Maxxis Ignitor Mountain Bike Tire
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've just started riding the Maxxis Ignitors, so my experience is limited. They seem to be great tires for my area, DC, MD, & VA. I have used Continental Escape, Specialized Roll X, and Hutchinson Bulldogs most recently. I got the Ignitors because of their more rounded shoulder knobs. They give you a better feel through turns and don't break loose like tires with square shoulders.

Kenneth Cole New York Men's Mountain Bike Boot Review

Kenneth Cole New York Men's Mountain Bike Boot

So I bought these boots thinking they looked tough and rugged, but also stylish. Well, after less than 2 months of New York winter, the heels started coming off of both of them. Look nice, but not very well made. Try again Kenneth.

Avenir Third-Hand Cable Puller Review

Avenir Third-Hand Cable Puller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is not really a Third-Hand tool. A third hand tool holds the brakes themselves closed. Calling this a 3rd hand tool is incorrect bicycle tool terminology. This is rightly called a FOURTH-HAND tool by those in the know.
But that said, this item is a good budget tool for pulling/holding the brake cable on your bicycle brakes while you use your other 3 hands to simultaneously tighten the cinch nut and hold the bolt from turning -while at the same time holding the brake caliper closed.
The same tool is made by Park and Pedro's but they pretty much are all the same tool more or less except for they call it by its correct name: FOURTH-HAND-TOOL. The Avenir version does a knock-up job when you really need it (usually not that often.)
Many bike brake wrenching tasks don't even need this tool and you can get by without it most of the time even when it would have come in handy. But there are those times when this type of tool is worth its weight in gold when you don't have a helper and the particular brake you are working on is a PITA. The low cost of the Avenir version compared to the others makes it a wise buy to the non-pro wrench. It isn't often needed and spending top dollar for a name-brand tool on something that isn't a must-have most of the time is money that could be better spent on more important tools/components.
Pros:
*Works. When it is needed it is a godsend.
*Very LOW cost compared to the Park and Pedro's versions. Pretty much the same thing.
Cons:
*Wrong name -this is a 4th-hand tool not a 3rd-hand tool.
*The plastic handle grip is a bit cheesy & thin -the Park and Pedro's tools have nicer rubberized handles.
*It is a bit complex to figure out how to work/operate. It has lots of flippy and pivoty bits to maneuver around while setting it on the cable correctly, and often there is very little room to work -especially on center-pull brakes with the tire really in the way. This is more or less the same issue with more expensive tools too. Even though it is hard to set up it still is easier than trying to hold the cable with your teeth ;)

M-Wave Plastic Bicycle Bottle Cage Review

M-Wave Plastic Bicycle Bottle Cage
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This waterbottle mount can be used horizontally (as shown in the product picture) on your handlebars, for instance, or used vertically on your seatpost or your frame, etc. It has a small metric hex/allen screw that can be used to change the orientation of the mount. Other than switching orientation, there are no tools needed to mount this waterbottle cage!
The mount comes with ZERO instructions, which isn't cool, but using it is very straightforward and pretty much common sense.
It comes with a tiny black rubber shim that you place between the clamp (touching the bike) and the frame/post of the bike. This keeps the mount from slipping and sliding around.
The mount is bit heavier than it needs to be but it's due to the clamp and quick-release. The actual cage portion of this product is quite light.
The actual waterbottle cage can be unscrewed from the clamp and used, standalone on bikes that already have braze-ons for waterbottle cages.
On the negative side, if you have a skinny waterbottle it can easily fall from the cage. Also, you have to be careful of the angle at which it sits because the waterbottle sitting in the cage can be knocked loose due to hard road vibration or a really hard bump so mounting it underneath your bike, hanging down, isn't advised.
This is a great solution for anyone that doesn't have braze-ons for waterbottles on their bike frame or someone who simply wants to carry extra waterbottles and have them placed anywhere on their bike.

Shimano Men's Mountain Bike Shoe - SH-MT42NV (40) Review

Shimano Men's Mountain Bike Shoe - SH-MT42NV (40)

Good experience, Shoes are snug, because I ordered a size down based on other comments (about the brand) and this was spot on. I usually wear a 10.5 but the 9(43) fits perfect. This is my first pair of cycling shoes and would recommend to any one. If this is going to be your first pair of Mtn bike shoes, they are stiff and do not flex like a trail shoe would. (sorry for the obvious statement).

Kenda K40-HP Street Wire Bead Bicycle Tire, Gumwall, 26-Inch x 1-3/8-Inch Review

Kenda K40-HP Street Wire Bead Bicycle Tire, Gumwall, 26-Inch x 1-3/8-Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A pair of (37-590) Kenda K40 "gumwalls" was used to refresh an older Free Spirit bike. Tires mounted reasonably well considering the condition of 30-year-old rims, but make sure the bead is in fact seated evenly before inflating to recommended pressure. A small rib should be visible just above the rim edge, and will help you judge if tire is in place.
My friend is a very happy camper now, and so am I for being able to help out.
Overall, these tires are good enough for the price, mount, look and roll very nicely. The 26 x 1-3/8" was very hard to find locally, and thank you Amazon for keeping the stock.
* Note: One-star reviews for these elsewhere on Amazon are not all deserved. These are *NOT* MTB-sized 26" tires despite a "26" appearing in the size - read specs carefully.
** Tires came in two large flat packages, but could have easily fit in one. This means the wire beads were not bent even a slightest bit (vs. if two were packed in the same box). Amazon could have easily saved on shipping, but didn't this time, which is a nice touch!

Shimano SL-M410 Alivio 8-Speed Shift Lever Set Review

Shimano SL-M410 Alivio 8-Speed Shift Lever Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These shifters came on my Trek 4500 MTB. They worked great and never got out of adjustment for a year and a half. Then one day, the right shifter broke and I was unable to shift into higher gears without forcing the shifter into my handgrip. I opened them up to see if I could fix it by pure luck, but when a metal piece that had broken off fell out of the case as I opened it, I figured it was not fixable. I did some quick forum searching and gathered that many Shimano shifters are non rebuildable... so if you want a cheap, disposable shifter that works well, this one fits the bill. I gave it 4 stars cause it's pretty good for a lower end shifter. It didn't get 5 cause it broke in under 2 years.
My riding consists of weekend rides on fireroads with the family, some light commuting when the weather is bad and I don't want to ride my motorcycle in the rain, and a very rare 10 mile single track loop near the home. I am near the coast and my bike does have rust on many of the screws, so that could have attributed to the premature breakdown.

Saris Bones RS 3-Bike Trunk Mount Rack Review

Saris Bones RS 3-Bike Trunk Mount Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this rack to haul my bike around. I drive a Cadillac CTS-v. The rack works as Saris markets. I have not hauled three bikes but have done two. No problems what so ever. The rack secures nicely to my trunk lid. The fit is a little awkward as the suction cup brace things don't fit well on the edge of my trunk lid BUT the rack still secures nicely - doesn't move around, doesn't damage the pain, doesn't bend or scratch the trunk lid.
One thing that was not mentioned in the instructions is the fact that the front wheel kind of swings (from the unrestricted turning of the bars and wheel) back and forth in the wind. I used a small bungee cord to tie the front wheel to the rack. This isn't a big deal and the wheel wasn't turning back and forth to much but I simply want everything solidly attached and not moving. Plus if for some reason my skewer decided to vibrate loose and let my $400 front wheel fall from the bike, the bungee will hold on to it. - probably a bit over protective on my part.
Overall this rack is nice. The locking straps work great and the key really does as advertised. They have plenty of torque with the ratchet system so be careful not to over tighten. The bike is very stable once strapped in. The straps themselves are VERY easy to secure and to release. Installing the rack on the car took a little effort the first time. Now it takes all of 30 seconds - 45 seconds if I lock the straps. Taking it off consists of giving the straps some slack and then simply removing the rack from the car. Literally it takes 15-30 seconds to remove it from the car. You can open the trunk with the rack on. You may have to assist it when you hit the "pop trunk button" but opening the trunk is no problem - obviously don't try to open the trunk with a bike on the rack.
Great rack overall. I would highly recommend this rack!

One of the annoyances with trunk-mounted racks has always been the straps. With the Saris Bones RS 3-Bike Trunk Mount Rack, the straps have been eliminated. In their place is a ratcheting system with rubber-coated clips and steel-belted bands for a quick, secure fit on a wide variety of vehicles, including sedans and minivans. In addition to eliminating clumsy, unreliable straps, this rack also eliminates the hassle of wrestling bikes onto a roof rack. The Bones RS is at the most convenient place possible--right in front of you, on the rear of your vehicle. The pivoting, anti-sway frame grips can be tilted for greater bike stability and the support arms can be moved closer together or further apart to fit just about any bike from road to mountain, adult to child.

Zefal Swan Mountain Bicycle Fender (Black, Front)
Average Reviews:

Product is poorly made from plastic. The plastic mounting bracket was either too loose or it breaks the plastic mounting bracket. No matter how I adjusted it, it was never far enough above the tire to keep from rubbing the tire when I applied the brakes (this is from the front fork suspension). I am tring to return it but have not heard from Niagra for RMA #. Have filed a claim with Amazon so I can return it.

I replaced a much heavier FSA A-Drive, 48-38-28 with the Tru Firex. The external bearings of the Tru are silk smooth. The crank is much lighter and feels very precise on shifts and spins really well and fast. I can do 150 rpm's and above with ease. I simply love my Truvativ Firex 3.3 now. I am a SRAM fan and use X.9 front and rear dr's on my bike setup which adds to the smooth, light and fast experience.

Okay, we have a new basement, that needed organizing, so I started with our bikes.
The box came quickly and I set it downstairs. No more than 10 minutes lapsed and my 7 year old son put the whole thing together. I put all the screws in and tightened them, but he did it himself and without the instructions! No kidding! Our bikes are all in order now and I smiled when I look at the rack! Have fun!

Vetta RT233 Cycling Computer Review

Vetta RT233 Cycling Computer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've installed a number of these, so I didn't find the instructions confusing at all. The steps are pretty straightforward, and are the same for any cycling computer that doesn't have a sensor for pedaling cadence. You mount the head bracket on your handle bars, the sensor on a fork leg, and the magnet on a spoke. Adjusting the position of the magnet and the sensor can be somewhat tricky, since the gap between them has to be "right." This was the first one that included anything to help you get that gap correct. The spoke mounted magnet has a rubber cap on it, and you adjust the sensor and the magnet until the protruding point on this temporary cap touches the sensor in the right spot, tighten up the clamps and screw, and take the cap off of the magnet.
The only other thing is to route the wire connecting the sensor to the bracket, unless you're installing a wireless model. One pleasant surprise is that this one also included a separate rubber base for the head bracket that accommodated the riser handle bar on my son's bike. Now I just have to get him to look where he's riding rather than watching the speedometer for his top speed. :)
