(More customer reviews)It seems like a pretty nice bike. Assembly was pretty straight forward. Removing the chain guard was necessary because it makes too much noise. I had to adjust the front brakes which was no big deal. When putting the seat on I had to loosen the red reflector so I could put the bike seat to the lowest position. Overall it was pretty smooth when riding and I like it. When I use it more I will probably write a better review.

(More customer reviews)My wife & I are avid cyclists, so for my son's 9th birthday, we bought him his own road bike! I am very pleased with the bike! I am somewhat of a bike mechanic, so putting it together was very easy, and simple. I did however, have to adjust the brakes, and now they work wonderfully. I also added brake levers on the handle bars (cross inline levers), and that was a great safety net. I also replaced the two tires with 24" x 1" wheel chairs tires, and tubes, and they fit and work wonderfully. All total, I have spent less than $175.00 on his road bike, and We are very pleased with it!

Planet Bike SpeedEZ Road Front and Rear Bicycle Fender Set Review

(More customer reviews)Not having eyelets on my bike wasn't something I thought about until now--two years into owning it--but when I started looking for fenders I was a little shocked. From some of the product descriptions it can be hard to tell whether you need eyelets to install the fenders, but these are definitely designed for eyelet-less cycles. They also match with the attitude of most non-eyelet bikes (go speed racer!): these fenders are extremely light weight. The plastic is solid and durable, and there is farily good wheel coverage (I haven't seen the stripe of doom since I started using them). For the most part the rubberized strap installation system keeps the fenders in place (especially if you really yank on the straps), and the height of the fender is easy to adjust with a pair of locking pliers or a wrench. One downside of the light weight of the fenders is that sometimes a harsh bump or pothole will skew the fender alignment, but I haven't had a bad enough shake to ruin the coverage. Another small negative is that the required tension applied to the struts by the rubberized straps can be strong enough to pull the struts out of alignment, but that is easy enough to fix. One final small minus is that you don't get any extra straps; this is potentially bad because during the installation you have to trim the straps so they don't get caught in the spokes while riding. So if one of the straps snaps or otherwise breaks you'll be up a creek without a paddle. All in all, I highly recommend these fenders for bikes without eyelets. They are extremely light weight, durable, and easy to deal with. The price I paid (about $20) was cheap in my opinion. Get yo'self some and ditch the Butt Stripe of Doom.

Crank Brothers Candy 3 Mountain Bike Pedals Review

(More customer reviews)This is a review after 1hr of riding with these pedals. I ride a recumbent in South Florida, have been using both SPD pedals with sandals for casual rides, and Look Keo Carbons with racing shoes for more rigorous workouts. Been a serious cyclist off and on since 1967. While the Look system always worked well for me on diamond frame bikes, this set up is not ideal for bents. Hot feet, unsure footing when stopped, and difficult click in and release are the main factors. SPD with sandals are more comfortable with cooler feet and safer stops and starts, but secure engagement and easy release proved illusive. After 4 plus years and over 12,000 miles of frustration on the bent it was time for something new. I decided to give Crank Brothers a try. I wanted to use sandals primarily. Since sandals flex for walking some sort of pedal platform is very helpful for support. The Candy series pedals offer a small platform not as big as other pedals, but the trade-off is light weight. Rotating mass is a very significant factor is cycling performance and at 304 grams these pedals are quite lightweight. The Candy 3 pedals are noticeably lighter than my SPD pedals were and similar to the Look Keo Carbons. These pedals feel very smooth and the bearings are serviceable and completely re-buildable, which is encouraging for longevity. Crank Brothers has a good reputation for customer support and parts should be readily available for these pedals. These pedals look and feel like high quality products. The cleats mounted in the shoes with no problems. Metal shims are available from Crank Brothers in three thicknesses if there is a compatibility problem with the shoes. The first thing I noticed upon clipping in is that engagement was at once easy and very secure. Gone is the trade-off between secure engagement and ease of release that is an inherent characteristic of SPD. There is not an adjustment nor a need for one with the Candy 3s. Disengagement with Candy 3 is also very easy. There is 6 degrees of float, which is adequate. The cleats can be installed to disengage at 15 degrees or 20 degrees, I set mine at 15 degrees and it feels just fine. Riding the bike I felt that the platform is adequate underneath my flexible soled sandals. A longer ride has to wait for the weekend, but first impressions are that the compromise between light weight and adequate support offered by the Candy pedals is pretty well sorted. I tried spinning at a very high cadence such as one might do in a sprint, and mashing a big gear up a hill at very low cadence. My feet felt fine, there were no unwanted releases, the light weight was noticeable. These pedals offer a very high level of performance and comfort for my application and are priced competitively between Shimano XT and XTR, two high grade SPD pedals for comparison. I will write a follow-up after gaining more experience, but at first blush these are worthy offerings.
The following comments are added as a follow-up. I have used these pedals now for almost 1 year and approximately 3,000 miles. All that was written above is accurate. The pedals have proven to be efficient, reliable, and comfortable in use with sandals. Although the cleats are still OK, they are wearing down and will undoubtedly require replacement at some point. The functionality of the Crank Brother system is so high that this is only a minor disadvantage. In summation, a total of 3 more bicycles have been retrofitted with these pedals including 2 belonging to my wife, who is not a gear head by any means, and she loves them too. In 44 years of adult cycling including competition, these are quite simply the best bicycle pedals I have ever encountered. Highest recommendation.

I wear out and/or break the wings long before the bearings, bushings, or spindles go. All of the wings are stamped steel unless you get the 11's, but $300 for pedals? Drop weight and friction elsewhere. Crank Bro's has a wonderful warranty policy but I can only send them in so many times in good conscience.
Buy them and become one with your bike.

Otherwise I'm very satisfied with the pedals. One side for my daily commute in sneakers to the station; the other for weekend rides. Installation was straightforward and the cleats installed easily on my Shimano shoes, with only minor adjustment required afterward.

Schwinn Men's Prelude Bicycle (BBWhite) Review

(More customer reviews)First of all I consider myself a serious commuter rider. I ride 3000 miles a year, have for two years, on and off for 35 years. I've had Schwinns, Gitanes, and Motobecanes. I hit a pothole, ended up in the hospital and destroyed my 35 year old Motobecane a few weeks ago. My bike is my only means of transportation, so replacing it was a must. I'm not a weekend racer or casual rider. I'm 6'6", 240 pounds, and an engineer. I need my bike tough, fast, and with a really high high gear. I'm not interested in some overpriced bike to impress my weekend bike warrior friends. I don't run around in spandex. What I like: The balance is good, light as a feather, the padded tape handle bars are wonderful, the gearing is great, the shifters that actually go right to the desired gears are heavenly, the brake calipers do a great job of centering on the tires. I like the quick release front hub with self centering fork depressions. Quick release seat height is a plus. The paint looks durable. The handles hold a end of bar mirror nicely. The bike rides great and I rapidly got used to it's balance. Before I mention the negatives, I am pleased with the bike, it's a pleasure to ride and would definitely buy it again. I got it for $249 at a big box sporting goods store. What I don't like: I would love to be able to raise the handlebar stem a few inches, and have the frame larger for my size. I immediately replaced the skinny fits in your crack seat, with a wide memory foam one from Bell for my ample rear. I took off the peddle baskets, hate them things, which lost me two peddle reflectors. They have wrapped the brake lines under the handlebar tape and taped almost to the stem making it really tough to cludge solutions to mount the lights, reflectors, and speed computer. I made putty epoxy forms to get the computer to fit the handlebar center shaft. My Motobecane had brake handles that went both down the front and in toward the stem of the handlebars so you could brake in both hand positions. You have to be in the lower position to brake on the Prelude, loosing precious milliseconds in an emergency. I am at the upper limit of the seat post to fit me. The 700c 23mm 'tires' are weak for going across rough terrain, I go over 34 railroad tracks on the way to work. Blew both tires first week going too fast from pinch punctures. The rear wheel is a pain to remove and especially to reinstall. The rims are really solid, but they are that hollow extruded aluminum design. They put a chinsy rubber strip over the spoke holes and the tire pressure (100 PSI min) caused it to burst puncturing two inner tubes within a two weeks (while it sat in the Sun). I filled the depressions with hard high temperature red silicone rubber and taped over them with 3/4" fiberglass electrical tape. It seems to be holding well now. Schwinn should have done that in design. They are sending me a bike computer as an apology for my troubles, hey they listen, got to credit them for that. By the way Schwinn's 700c 25-32mm self sealing inner tubes are too long to fit in the tire, and fold up inside on inflation. The self sealing stuff doesn't work at this pressure just makes a mess. Schrader valve narrow 700c inner tubes are really hard to find, get a stock early, I'm going to Presta valves because it's all I can find in torn proof inner tubes. The cheap thin tubes are supposed to flex better and make you ride faster. My bike weights 26# I weigh 240, excuse me, all you need to do is get some muscle child and it won't slow you down. After all the tire flexes in and out, pushes in hard pushes out hard, so it's negligible unless you wear spandex and have to ride in packs. Bottom line it does what I need for a reasonable price. All of the problems have been simple fixes. Most of you are not my size and won't put the bike through what I do. I love the thing, plus it looks hot. I spend $300/year on bike repairs, I was spending $450/month to keep a car on the road. My cholesterol dived, my BP is great, and my sleep apnea is in remission since riding daily.

(More customer reviews)The item description is misleading. I have a mountain bike - Raleigh Mojave 5.0 and this rack does NOT accommodates the tires. The top rack is design to tilt at a slight angle to hold the tire firmly but it is not tilted enough to accomodate my regular mountain bike's tire. Eventually I have to bent the hook down in order to muscle my tire onto the hook. But it was a pipe construction so the structure integrity is compromised this way (you don't really want to bent the metal pipe and expect it to hold the same weight). If you have a "phat, chunky mountain tires", DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. Guarantee you'll regret it.

(More customer reviews)I love em! Paid $185 in the shop at the Y in Tahoe and got the matching SM-SH51/56 cleats put on my shoes. They just fasten sooooooo smoothly that they are one of life's little joys and safety fixes to me that you may want to entertain doing. I'm glad I upgraded, and wish I had them for all my bikes. One thing... pedals only install with a larger 8mm allen wrench I believe, so buy that tool when you get them if you plan on moving them around at all. They do not accept a standard pedal wrench, so that's out, but an allen's easier to carry than a pedal wrench. Enjoy!

Schwinn Volare Hybrid Bike (700C Wheels) Review

(More customer reviews)This is my first hybrid bike. It's basically a road bike with a flat handle bar, which was exactly what I was looking for. I had a BMX that was stolen so I decided to purchase this hybrid based on the brand and price. There were no reviews online for this bike to help influence me before I purchased it, that's why I'm submitting my first review. I watched a few videos online on how to assemble a road ride, which was helpful. Assembling the bike was easy, front wheel, handle bar, pedals and seat. Next, I pumped the tires to their correct air pressure and adjusted the seat for a comfortable fit. After that there was nothing else to do other than to give it a test ride. The gears and the brakes were easy to use and they needed no adjustments. The bike is very quite when pedaling. It is light weight and nice to ride. I've owned this Schwinn Volare S5460 for about a month now and so far so good. I purchased a gel seat cover because the seat was paining the nerves out my @ss. The only thing about the gel seat cover is that I don't really like how it looks over the seat. I'm thinking about getting a narrow road bike seat that heard is as comfortable. It's a good looking bike; I like the frame, wheels and the colors. The frame is 18" and the wheels are 700c(very slim). I bought a blue and white multi-sport helmet to match the bike's paint job. I'm 5'7" and the bike fits me good. If you're over 6 feet then you'll need a bigger frame. Four things I recommend you get if you're going to purchase this bike, a comfortable seat, a helmet, a pump w/ an air pressure gauge and a high security lock. I"ll post some pictures.
