(More customer reviews)I live in an area where goat heads cover most of the land. They're so bad out here, they've ruined several garden hoses... It seems like I've tried every flat prevention product known to man, but they never stopped goat head punctures. So, I searched online and found these 3.5mm thick tubes from Kenda and figured I'd give them a try. When I received the tubes, I was amazed by how large and heavy the box was. You don't really realize how thick this tube is until you actually feel it. It makes those "thorn resistant" tubes you buy locally seem like a joke...
Installation was a breeze because they are so thick, it's very hard to wind up pinching them. I've been riding on them for two weeks now, and they're still at the 75 PSI I put in them the day I installed them. I'm extremely pleased. I'm sure the pros would complain about the weight they add, but I don't care, I just want a wheel that rolls!
BTW, I believe slime sells this exact same tube (same specs, same size box) under their name with slime sealant pre-installed for double the price. Just get the Kenda tubes and add your own sealant, it's much cheaper. But I don't even think you need it!

The only problem is that they wear quickly, but they are very cheap compared to many other tires. Also, they wear quickly because they have excellent traction which is what I would rather have. Bottom line is, I highly recommend these tires if you're looking for an all purpose tire. I also highly recommend the seller, BikeSomeWhere who had a great price and fast shipping.

(More customer reviews)Sold a new bike to middle-aged woman who had brain surgery and now had balance problem. She was determined to ride a bike with her husband and we found the only set of wheels that would fit a 26" bike. Made her very happy and is helping her confidence. While this lady was just under the weight limit for this item I had to adjust it a few times as it was straining under the weight when she was leaning to one side or the other. Either the weight limit is slightly exaggerated or it should max at 24".
This product served the purpose in this case and owners understand the limitations but were happy with the product as it accomplished what she wanted and didn't have to resort to a trike.

(More customer reviews)I bought this product based on the picture as the wheels touch the ground thereby allowing for a wider base of support. As per the professional who put the wheels on for me, they can NOT touch the ground because then the large wheel can NOT get traction. True, I did not understand the physic behind it, but I did call the company prior to the purchase. The "stability" the product affords is after the fact. First you have to lean over so that the side wheel can catch you. This product may work for individual with mild peripheral vestibular disorders, but it will NOT work for those with central and or combined vestibular disorders. So... I spent a lot of money for a product that I can not use and I spent additional money to have it put on my bike. Here's the final note... the gentleman who owns the bike shop will NOT sell these to his customers, He recommends that his customers purchase a three wheeler.

(More customer reviews)I finally capitulated and spent extra money for these tubes instead of the $3 specials I usually buy. I ride in the dry ranch land of central Texas and little fine thorns called goatheads work their way into the tire and tube over a period of time and cause slow leaks. So every other day I am patching a tube. Until now. I have about 100 miles now on these two tires and have not had one flat. I am happy.
As to the fellow who had the problem with the slime stopping up his valves, the slime is water soluble, so all you need to do is remove the valve stem, wash it off, and clean out the valve with a wet Q-tip.

Kenda K908 Pathfinder Wire Bead Bicycle Tire, Blackwall, 26-Inch x 1.95-Inch Review

(More customer reviews)Nice tire for the money with a compromise tread that lets me ride trails or veer onto the grass to miss snowbirds or panhandlers on the path or the street. Installed on a set of double-wall rims on a vintage ('92) Rockhopper. Note that this tire is 'drive-specific,' and requires some attention on mounting (e.g., 'Drive -->'). BTW, mounting was a snap with only a pair of Park Tool TL-1s - not bad at all for a wire-bead tire!
We'll see how it holds up - but I like the 65-psi max rating - nice for less rolling resistance when fighting cagers in an urban setting!

Kenda Kross Plus Wire Review

(More customer reviews)I'm a big fan of semi-slicks; done right, they can handle all but the worst gnarl, and they roll faster and with less noise too.
Having run through my supply of Kenda Kwicks, and with Kenda not making the Kwick any longer, I gave the Kross a try.
The key to a semi-slick is how the slick section is constructed. The idea is that the "slick" part - and only the "slick" part - contacts hard pavement, and then as the surface gets softer, progressively more of the tire is engaged.
The Kwick did this very well, featuring a variety of low-profile knobs and bars across the "slick" portion that contributed very little in the way of rolling resistance or vibration, but helped handle the transition from hard pack to all-out soft (where the big side lugs engage)
The Kross instead concentrates on road performance. The "road rib" has serrated edges that presumably dig in on intermediate surfaces, but the main part of the contact patch is entirely smooth.
This, in practice, makes for a nice and fast road-going tire, and it does passably well in very soft stuff. But on intermediate surfaces, like most singletrack, this tire is a slithery mess. It locks up under braking, it spins loose on climbs, and it times, it requires Shakira levels of body English to keep the bike under you.
As a road tire, it is very good - I did 160 km on it one weekend with a smooth and secure ride. As a road with a little trail - just fine. But as a singletrack tire... it's just OK. Unlike a full slick, you can get away with some trail use, but be prepared to slither a bit.

I was on a budget, and these tires prosmised dependable service, so I took a chance. I trained with these tires for two months prior to my trip, and put a little over a thousand miles on them. During my three month bike tour, I only had one flat, and never experienced any problems, even on some stretches of gravel and dirt roads. After more than 5,000 miles of riding, the tires still look almost new. These are in my opinion, the best street tires for the money.

Kenda K838 Slick Wire Bead Bicycle Tire, Blackwall, 26-Inch x 1.95-Inch Review

(More customer reviews)My mountain bike needed new tires, the old ones were dry and cracked, and one had blown out through the sidewall. I decided that since I seldom ride in mud or on very loose surfaces, a smoother tread would allow me to ride along with lower effort and/or greater speed. Smooth tires on urban bicycles are nothing new, the Tioga City Slicker has been around for years, and probably serves as an inspiration for many other similar tires. I ordered the Kenda K838 based on the favorable reviews, and am very pleased. I ordered four tires, to upgrade two bicycles. They came in a box which was probably twice as large as it needed to be. As everyone else has mentioned, they are blackwall, not gumwalls as illustrated. Mounting the tires was no problem at all. I used a plastic tire lever to remove the old tires from the rims, and just popped the Kenda's on with my fingers, no tools needed. I inflated them to 60 psi and went for a ride.
The tread design and profile are based on combined features from successful motorcycle tires. The tread pattern is very similar to that seen on the Bridgestone Spitfire, with directional grooves to channel water to the outside edge of the tread surface. This gives low rolling resistance and complete silence....no humming or howling knobs on pavement. Constant pedaling is not necessary, as the low rolling resistance means one can pedal a bit, then coast or glide a long distance.
They don't accelerate quite as easily as some narrower, lighter tires, say 700 x 28, but they do very well for a tire nearly 2 inches wide, and offer vastly better load capability, rim protection, flat resistance and a superior ride over irregularities. Bumps feel considerably "dampened", and the tires "float" undeflected over gravel patches instead of knifing in or skating around as a narrow tire might.
Their triangular profile is based on designs used on Dunlop TT100 motorcycle tires and others. This means that when viewed from the front, the tire doesn't look "circular" round, but has a "rounded triangle" shape. When riding straight, the narrow "point" of the triangle contacts the road, giving a lower resistance. As the bike banks over for turns, the broad "flank" of the triangle gradually spreads across the road, giving a broader contact area and better grip.
Owners of mountain bikes which are used more often on pavement and hard-packed dirt or gravel will probably enjoy these. They seem to be very well made and a good choice for their intended purpose.

(More customer reviews)Real life story first: I had a staple in my tire that I missed no matter how many times I ran my finger along the inside of the tire and looked at the outside. I burned through 2 "regular" tubes and could not figure out why. I put this tube in and it stayed inflated despite the staple (which I still didn't know was there). It was just by chance that I saw the staple from the outside when I was putting the tire back on with this tube inside and fully inflated. These tubes are excellent! I have been riding for about 9 months since then with zero flats and almost no loss in pressure over time. They are very thick; hence they are heavier than a normal tube. Those of you who measure bike parts in ounces, look elsewhere! Everyone else, enjoy the freedom of riding without flat tires!

Slime Smart Tube Schrader Valve Bicycle Tube (26 x 1.75-2.125) Review

(More customer reviews)I'm a cyclist who predominantly bikes roads with a mountain bike. I do not drive, so cycling is my way of transportation -- that means ~25 years of biking!
I've used these tubes over the past 8 months. I purchased 4 tubes, and as of yesterday I'm completely out. There are a lot of negatives to these tubes, but they do provide one positive. The negatives first:
* Easily punctured, probably due to cheap rubber being used for the tubes themselves. My destinations are very close (within 1-2 miles at most), and mostly paved streets, as well as a community bike/jogging trail and a park. The latter two mean thorns!
* Sufficient for small punctures, e.g. thin pieces of glass or metal, and (if you're lucky) thorns. The smaller the hole, the better chance it is these tubes will work for you. These won't work for metal shards that dig into your tire/tube in a straight like (e.g. a razor), or pinch flats.
* Incredibly messy when punctured while riding. The first thing you'll hear is air leaking, followed by neon green slime flying all over the place.
* The slime is in no way permanent like a patch would be. Don't let these tubes make you think the slime somehow re-galvanises the rubber tube from the inside out: they don't.
* You cannot patch these tubes once punctured. The slime is impossible to clean off (despite the box claiming it's water-soluble), and the patch will never stay. You're absolutely forced to replace the entire tire.
* Added weight, combined with a very strange feel when riding (caused by the slime shifting/moving within the tire in somewhat of a coagulated blob). Kids probably won't care, but experienced cyclists will definitely notice the difference. It's enough weight (especially on a mountain bike) that it's worth noting here.
The one positive:
* These _will_ allow you to get home once the tube is punctured. I've had all 4 punctured, and the procedure works like this: you'll stop to find your frame covered in said slime (hope you have mudguards!) before attempting to find the puncture hole. Assuming you find it, the trick is turning the tire so that the hole is against the ground (allowing the goop to flow via gravity down into the hole). Give it 45-60 seconds to set, and you should be okay for the remaining ride (hope it's a short distance). If air starts to leak again, repeat the process. Tedious, but after a while, it works.
The manufacturer would do well to use a different kind of rubber, and advocate thicker/heavier tires. My mountain bike uses incredibly soft tires (I find even the smallest of rocks dug deep into the elevated gripped areas!), which contributes to the problem.
The bottom line for me is that these tubes let me make it to work/home in the case I get a flat, but are otherwise worthless. Then again, they're fairly cheap tubes...
