O.K., I know what you're thinking - a BOLD statement. Well, here's alittle backline: I ride a flatbar, full-carbon road bike 9K miles/year - 3 60 mile rides/week; it's my religion! I also ride a flatbar road bike as my "work bike" - to/from the gym, running errands around town, etc. Living in SoCal, the weather accomodates year-round riding. As anyone will tell you, riding a flatbar EQUALS hand fatigue; you basically have 1-2 hand positions (hands resting lightly on the grips, and hands in the "full grip" position). As a result, good gloves and good grips are a requirement. I've experimented with both for the last five years - my glove and grip "graveyard" is bigger than Arlington National Cemetery! My grips of choice have been the old Specialized Body Geometry grips circa 2005 in clear silicone; of course, they don't make 'em anymore! I've been nursing along my last two raggedy sets, all the while trying out any and all replacements that I could find. Well, I tried a set of these last week; not only did they meet my expectations, they exceeded them! Previously, I had to "shake out" and rest my hands about a dozen times during my 60 mile run; this was with the "good" grips. Other ergonomic grips, even the high-end ones, were even worse, introducing numbness into my right hand for several days after. I knew these were gonna be good within the first 100 yards of my ride! Virtually no numbness whatsoever; the only time I had to lift either hand was to wipe the sweat off my face over the entire ride. More control of the bike too. To top it all off, they LOOK cool, giving my bike a more modern, "machined" look. A word of caution, however - install them CORRECTLY! This is best done with compressed air, to "blow" off the old grips/install the new ones; any bike shop can do this. Also critical is to wipe down the bars with alcohol before installation, this way the grips will stay securely and EXACTLY where you want them. Finally, the grips are marked "left" and "right" in tiny letters - pay heed! Needless to say, I'll be buying a PALLET of these grips to put into storage, so that I never run out...
