Park Tool TB-2 Emergency Tire Boot (Pack of 3) Review

Park Tool TB-2 Emergency Tire Boot (Pack of 3)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Be aware that these patches are for inside your tires, not the outer surface of your tubes, in situations where you can actually see the tube through a hole in the tire. If you're looking for glueless / pre-glued patches for your tubes, I recommend Park Tool brand for that as well though several other brands also make good pre-glued patches.
These patches are a great solution even in the worst of cases where the tire has such a large gash in it that there would otherwise be no way to inflate the tire without the tube bubbling out of the cut and exploding. The patches themselves are tough enough to hold up to debris (even glass) getting in the cut, and there is effectively no expansion out of the tire--whereas the old solution of using a dollar bill isn't nearly as good or durable.
They are rather thick--at least as thick as a tire sidewall--yet using one doesn't leave a big bump the way many glue-on tube patches do.
SIZE: I thought I would buy these three patches and try them out and then buy more immediately if they did, but each of the three is so large that you can cut several patches out of them--as suggested on the packaging. In fact, one whole patch is actually too big for a road tire, and really wouldn't be necessary in a mountain bike tire--unless it was a big three incher and the cut was reeeeeeeally bad.
CON: The only source of disappointment with this product is that the glue is only about as adhesive as that of a Post-it Note, perhaps not even that strong. The glue doesn't even hold the patch in place while you're installing the tube. However, the solution is not to glue it in place; just slip it in between the tube and the tire when you have the tube partially inflated and installed, then put the tire back on the rim and inflate to normal pressure.
Note that I haven't tried this on a mountain bike tire with low pressure yet, but have never personally had a mountain bike tire (2 inches in width or greater) with a hole that big in it.
BOTTOM LINE: Some riders pay $50 or more per tire, and when one gets a gash in it, even if the tire is brand new, that usually means putting it in the trash right away and spending another $50 or more. That's exactly what happened to me, but I didn't throw away the first tire thank goodness before buying these patches.
My replacement tire also got rather cut up over time to the point that I actually had to patch the tire itself in a couple of places. But with these patches I was able to reinstall the first tire which was otherwise completely new. And though I can actually see the patch through the gash in the road tire, it doesn't bubble out and I'm completely confident I could ride it like that for the remaining life of the tire.
I now carry one of these patches with me on every ride--just in case.

CycleOps Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer Review

CycleOps Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A trainer is better if it closely replicates an actual cycling experience. Hence, the graduating complexity and cost of fan, magnetic and fluid drive trainers. The more you pay, the closer the experience is to replicating the inertia of what happens in a real ride. You want the trainer to feel as if it takes more exertion to get up to speed, but also want it to "coast", when you stop pedaling. This trainer is a mag drive, and does a good overall job, but doesn't coast well. I find myself pedaling all the time, as if I were hill climbing. That's OK for getting exercise, but not good for getting in a sustained ride. Those brief periods of coasting help the muscles recover and allow longer ride time. I could stop entirely for short periods, but that's not how I want to ride. I do use the gears to vary pedaling speed, but can't use the high gear and standing to vary the working muscles enough on the trainer; the resistance doesn't go high enough for that. I haven't tried a fluid drive, so don't know if it would be much better. I suggest trying a trainer somewhere before buying. All said and done, I would probably buy this same trainer again, as it is solidly built and with a smooth tire on the bike, quiet enough. Now, if someone put a 20 lb weight on the spinner...

Gore Bike Wear Men's Fusion SO Pants Review

I bought these pants for my boyfriend, who is an all-weather urban biker. He loves them. We did end up having to exchange a Large for an XXL because like most biking gear, aerodynamics are key, these pants are very form fitting/tight. If you plan on layering for biking in cold temperatures, get a size or two larger, and they should be perfect.

Vetta NiteVision LED 3L Bicycle Headlight Review

Vetta NiteVision LED 3L Bicycle Headlight
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This light comes with a lot of accesories to attach it to a bike handlebar (3 different diameters), helmet or to use it as a flashlight. The specific attachment for the light works very well and looks durable and simple. It also has a short lanyard for your wrist and a black fabric holster if you want to carry it in your belt as a flashlight. The light is not very bright but that was expected from a low-priced device. Those who think that a $15 light is going to make everyone blind should think again. This is a 3-led light, but Vetta has 5 and 9 led models too for a little extra money. I purchased this light basically "to be seen" early in the morning or late afternoon to reduce risk of being hit by a car while riding several blocks away from home. It has three settings: high, low and flashing. If you plan to seriously commute or ride at night, look for something better and combine it with a tail light, your life is worth it.

I love the look of this bicycle. Received in good condition. Fairly Easy assembly. Seems to have solid construction. The seat doesn't seem to tighten as much as I would like but that could be an issue with the user instead of the actual bicycle construction. Rides smooth. This bike has wide handlebars which I couldn't tell by just looking at the picture. Overall, a good bike for the price. This bike is definitely worth the price.

Sunlite Bicycle 9/16 in Low Fat Type Plastic Mountain Pedals with Clips and Straps, 1 pair Review

This is the OEM starter pedals that come with road bikes to "get you by" until you purchase cycling shoes. However, there is an alloy core model of this available that does work quite well.
This particular plastic/resin core model has the steel cages screwed on, and since the screws go into plastic, and you're stepping on this, you can just imagine how that goes.
The purpose of this particular product is for selling bikes, test drives and other temporary use.

Power Grips Power Grip Sport Pedal and Strap Set Review

Power Grips Power Grip Sport Pedal and Strap Set

I am a diabetic. I have very little feeling in my feet, and they tend to slip off the pedals of my trike. I bought some expensive Sidi bike shoes and pedals that click onto them, but it's hard for me to "feel" through the shoe, thus making it very hard to center and click on in. Power Grips are wonderful. They keep your feet nice and snug on the pedals, but you can take them out in a second. And... no special shoes, clips. These are wonderful. I highly recommend them. Easy to install (but you must have a metal pedal you can screw the nuts into. they are a brilliant invention. I sold my trike that had them on it, and now, I've got a new TerraTrike, and I NEED to get another pair of XL straps and hardware. I'm ordering them tonight.

Continental Spike Claw Studded Tire Review

Continental Spike Claw Studded Tire
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Used on packed snow, hard ice and slushy snow/wet tarmac. I put one tyre on the front of a hard tail MTB and one tyre on the front of a rear wheel drive electric bike. Works much better than I expected. On ice it grips reliably safely if you go carefully, entirely useable where a normal tyre would be completely useless. On packed snow it grips very well indeed (if you go easy on ruts which can pull the front wheel left or right, just like a wet rutted mud trail) and on slush and wet tarmac it is nearly as good as an ordinary off road knobbly tyre on wet tarmac. I ran at 40 PSI on slush/wet tarmac and 32 PSI on the hard ice and on the packed snow. This tyre allowed me to cycle 16 miles to work and back when my wife could not even get the car up the first road due to ice. Tyre is expensive but it does the job, is not a gimmick and it is quite a buzz arriving at work when collegues in cars have given up. I took a big risk buying these due to the initial cost but for my circumstances they have turned out to be superb.

Polaris Sportsman Men's Comfort Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Review

Polaris Sportsman Men's Comfort Bike (26-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a long time motorcycle technician and tech editor of a national motorcycle publication. I haven't owned a bicycle in a long time, but I know a quality two wheeler when I see one - and when I don't. With this bicycle, I don't. Is it serviceable? Yes. But for how long, I couldn't predict. The bike is shipped with the seat, handlebar, and front wheel not installed. You must install these parts as well as others, but the manual covers two other models with only passing reference to parts of this bike that are similar. The wheels both have a lot of axial runout. The front wheel bearings were over tightened and turned very roughly. Regreasing and readjustment cured that, but it revealed what has to be the lowest quality bearings I've ever seen in any application. The bearing adjustment locknut was frozen on one end of the axle, so all adjustment was done from the other side. The slot for the axle in the fork bottoms was deeper on one fork than the other. This caused the wheel to be cocked in the forks and prevented brake adjustment. The importer is sending me a new fork, though I suspect I'll find the same issue - lack of quality control. I offset the axle in the fork to center the wheel, and all seems well. But the fitment is a quick release type, so a hard bump could shift it back and cause brakes to bind. On initial test ride, the chain kept jumping off the sprockets - first on the front, then the rear. Adjustment from scratch was required, with very poor instructions that really didn't apply to this particular model. But it works. Fenders are the flimsiest plastic things I've ever seen, and no instructions whatsoever for installing the front one. They both flop around like crazy while riding. All in all? A low grade Chinese made product that will provide the casual user with exercise and local transportation, but don't plan on riding any marathons. Considering that similar designs with higher quality sell for $750 or more, this bike is probably priced about where it belongs.

Amazon.com Bicycle Buying Guide Finding the Right Bike To really enjoy cycling, it's important to find a bicycle that works for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when you're in the market for a new bike:

The Right Ride In general, bikes are broken down into three major categories:

Road and Racing Bikes--As a general rule, road and racing are built for speed and longer distances on paved surfaces. Thinner tires, lightweight 29-inch (700c) wheels, and drop bars that allow for a more aerodynamic position are the norm. Most road bikes, regardless of price, offer many gears for tackling both hilly and flat terrain.
Mountain Bikes--With their larger tires, hill-friendly gearing, and upright position, mountain bikes are very popular for all types of riding, both on pavement and off. Mountain bikes that are designed specifically for rugged trail use typically feature a suspension fork. Some may have rear suspension, as well. A quick change of the tires on any mountain bike--even one that you use regularly on trails--adds to its versatility and makes it a worthy street machine.
Comfort/Cruiser Bikes--For tooling around on bike paths, light trails, or for cruising a quiet beach-side lane, comfort/cruiser bikes are the ticket. With a super-relaxed riding position, padded seats, and limited or no gearing, these bikes are made for enjoying the scenery and having fun with the family.

The Right Price A bike's price boils down to three essentials: frame materials, bike weight, and component quality and durability.

Entry-level--You'll find a wide range of comfort and cruiser bikes in this category, as well as some lower-end mountain bikes and road bikes. Most will have steel frames and components that are designed to last for several years with frequent use.
Mid-range--Bikes in this range may feature a lighter aluminum frame with mid-range components that keep performing after miles of use. If you're looking for a quality bike that is relatively lightweight and will stand up to abuse, this is the "sweet spot." Most serious commuter and touring bikes fall into this category, as do mid-range mountain bikes with a decent front suspension.
High-end--Racers and serious enthusiasts who expect lightweight, high-performance components will want to stick to this category. For road bikes, exotic frame materials (carbon fiber, titanium) and ultra lightweight components can add thousands to the price tag. Mountain bikes in this class often feature advanced front and rear suspension technology, as well as components designed to handle lots of rugged trail action.

The Right Size Fit is crucial for comfort, control, and proper power and endurance on a bike. Here are some basic bike fit tips:

Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height.
Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Measure from the center of your fist to the end of your collarbone (the part that intersects your shoulder). Next, measure your torso by placing a book against your crotch with the spine facing up. Measure from the spine to the bottom of your throat (the spot between your collarbones). Finally, add the two measurements (arm length + torso length), divide the number in half, and subtract six inches. This is your approximate top tube length. Compare this number to a bike's posted top tube length. You can allow for about two inches longer or shorter, as most bikes can be adjusted via stem length/height and saddle fore/aft position to make fine adjustments to the fit.
Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance.

The Right Accessories When you make a bike purchase, don't forget these crucial add-ons:

Helmet (this is a must!)
Seat pack
Lock
Hydration pack, or water bottle and bottle cage
Spare tubes
Portable bike pump
Gloves

CamelBak Podium 21-Ounce Chill Jacket Insulated Bottle Review

CamelBak Podium 21-Ounce Chill Jacket Insulated Bottle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I tried one of these Camelbak Podium Chill insulated bottle and I wasn't bowled over. The locking valve can adjust the amount of water flow was an ok idea. I would probably keep the valve unlocked and at it's max so I can drink and bike at the same time. I like how much water you can sqeeze out of the bottle and I like the self closing valve.
I find that the bottle volume is too small 21 oz. for long bike rides. The bottle also doesn't keep water as cold or as long as the 24 oz. Polar Insulated bottle. The bottle is a fair fit on my 15" frame MTB on my upright tube and well on the down tube.
Overall the bottle works, but I would buy the Polar bottle because it keeps drinks cooler longer, has a bigger capacity, is cheaper, and the 20 oz. bottle fit my upright tube better because it's 1/4" shorter than the Camelbak bottle.

Kenda Tube Bicycle Tire Tube Review

Kenda Tube Bicycle Tire Tube
Average Reviews:

I often dont find it necessary to review a product if its good and already has many good reviews, or if its bad and negative reviews has already been given, but I am surprised to see such few
and unclear review for this product thus I thought I can share a thing or two.
Shipping was very fast, price is cheap, product works and had no problem to pump it up to 110psi for my road tire, valve seems strong unlike some which I have had in the past which would just torn apart when I try to remove the pump.
Unless you like to ride your bikes with very low pressure tires and always run into pinch flat (in that case you better have thicker & more durable tubes), then I would recommend these tires, they are a little thinner compare to other tubes I had, but like I said so far it works without any problem.

Planet Bike Flipper Seat Post Quick Release Mount Adjustable Rear Bike Fender Review

Planet Bike Flipper Seat Post Quick Release Mount Adjustable Rear Bike Fender
Average Reviews:

This fender stays attached well, and accomplishes its main purpose, but the quick release mechanism is a little flimsy. I don't say flimsy to mean that it will break easily, I just mean that since it's mechanism doesn't hold the fender quite as still as I would like it to when riding. It kind of bounces around and can occasionally become dealigned with the tire. I am giving this 4 stars only because it is a good option for such a low price. Had this been a $20 item it would have received 3.

Bell Cruiser 26-Inch Bike Tire Review

Bell Cruiser 26-Inch Bike Tire

I bought this Bell Cruiser tire for an older model Trek Singletrack that I'm currently using to commute to work on. I have to admit that I'm surprised at how decent this tire is. It has a road-friendly tread pattern on it, so that I don't feel like I'm trying to bike on knobbies, yet it does grip very well when I do ride on some local trails. It's not even marketed as a multi-use tire, yet it is. Seriously: if you are using an old mountain bike type of bicycle to commute on and want some street friendly tires that work okay on packed dirt trails as well, then try these cruiser tires. I'm very happy with them.
