Topeak DynaPack Bicycle Seat Post Mount Bag with Fixer Review

I bought this for my first 5 day, 350 mile bike trip; The DALMAC. It passed the test and so did I. I liked the fact it had enough room for storage of anything I might need for the day. It also comes with a rain cover, which came in handy. It is easy to take on and off. It is also portable enough to bring with you when you lock up your bike and go into town. I wanted to buy the bigger version, but I am glad I stayed with this one for it's lighter weight. Go Bike Go!!!

Topeak MTX Trunk Bag EX Review

Purchased this bag with the matching rack for our second bike, so now both my my husband and I both have one. We enjoy riding long distance charity road rides, and this set-up is perfect: take extra energy bars, ibuprofen, another T-shirt, or stash extra clothing. At home, my husband will make a run to the grocery store on his mountain bike, slip the bag off his rack, and pack it up in the store, slip it back on outside, and away he goes. It can be switched from bike to bike easily enough, and you look nice enough that we've been asked where we got ours. Like I said, the fact that we're on our 2nd rack and bag should be proof enough that this is a winning combo.

the seat strap packs seem very popular, but i think this frame pack is far more practical
1) reachable and easily accessible, even while driving
2) it the perfect size.. its not bulky yet has enough room for everything: phone, keys, tools, money and alot more.. .. btw it has two seperate compartments.. somethin that doesnt show in the product picture.. i find that very nice, i don like to mix scratchables with scratchees
3) it straps to the bike easily .. no problem there... and quite stable on the road
4) its out of your way.. meaning it doesnt bother me peddling
5) looks sturdy

Topeak MTX Trunk Bag DX with Side Panniers Review

Topeak MTX Trunk Bag DX with Side Panniers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've got the MTX DXP bag, and Explorer rack combo, and was quite pleased with both. The rack was reasonably easy to install, came with decent instructions, and is quite solid. Also has a nice spot to place your tail light on the rear of it, which actually makes it more visible than when it's mounted to your seat post. I should mention, when installing to an aluminum frame, be careful. The screws are steel, and if your frame is aluminum like mine, it can be quite easy to crossthread the bolt holes if your not careful. A good way to prevent this is to lube the threads of the screw before installing. It will then prevent dragging when hand tightening, and keep you from having to use a hex wrench until it's time to put some torque on it. If it's not going in smooth, you'll want to make sure your not starting a cross thread before tightening, or else you'll find yourself at the bike shop trying to get aluminum rethreaded. Not an easy task for even the best cycling mechanic to do, I can tell you.
The bag though! I was a bit worried site unseen that it was going to look on my bike like I was hauling a black nylon refrigerator around. It's not that big, and looks quite nice on my bike. The rack system and integrated quick lock are great. Not only is it easy to get on and off the rack, but the REAL reason it's such a good system is that most bags, unless stuffed full, will list or flop to one side or the other. Can be a real pain in the arse. This one is rigid, and stays put, empty or full. It's been mentioned that the bag is heavy; well, if your putting this on your 16lbs. race bike, your a tard. It's not heavy at all for what it is, although it gives the illusion of being heavy, as it puts your bikes center of gravity off from what you may be used to (read, tail heavy). I can fit a 2 liter of soda in one of the panniers, a newspaper without folding it, a 10 lbs. bag of ice (it's a stretch, but you can fit it, just not able to zip it up), or similar large, heavy items of that sort. The main compartment isn't exactly big, but it will hold clothes, breakfast, lunch, dinner, minor camping supplies, and you can mount a sleeping bag to the top of it. Perfect size bag for 2-3 day excursion.
I use mine primarily for commuting, and that quick run to the store. You can load it with a surprising amount of stuff, and it is VERY stable. It takes a bit more than you might be used to in order to get your bike up to speed, but once your going, you don't even notice the weight. I've had no problem with my feet clearing the panniers, either standing, or sitting, and I have a fairly small bicycle frame, w/ 175mm cranks. So if anyone would of had a problem with this design, I would have, and I have tons of clearance. Can't say much about the rain proofness (word?) of this bag, as I've yet to ride it for a long period of time in heavy rain, but I have read that 1 hour in heavy rain, stuff inside is still dry. More than that, and I'd get a rain cover.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a decent bag for commuting or light touring (the bag is quite tough, just not super huge, the only reason I say 'light touring'). It's large without being huge, it is probably the most stable bag system out there, and is quite well made. I don't have any complaints about the bag, really, save one: I would have liked to see more external pockets on this bag, for things like keys, carbogel, tubes, tools, etc... but it does have a smaller top compartment for just such things, which works just as well. The panniers are the best integrated design I have ever seen. Just simply awesome, they fold out super easy, and are a breeze to zip back up (no origami, they just flip up, zip up, and their gone). They seem quite stout to boot, and as I mentioned, they are completely out of the way.
Hope this helps, if you were thinking about getting this, but weren't sure, just be aware of what your getting. Yes, it will ad weight to your bike (duh). No, you can't put $150 work of groceries in it. But yes, it's stable, strong, and you can certainly put $50 worth of groceries in it, no sweat. Once you're used to it, you won't imagine how you used that stupid backpack for so long.

Topeak Aero Wedge Pack DX Bicycle Seat Pack with Fixer (Medium) Review

Topeak Aero Wedge Pack DX Bicycle Seat Pack with Fixer (Medium)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a bag to hold my keys, spoke wrench, a pair of tire irons, a few Allen wrenches, a combo screwdriver and a spare inner-tube this just isn't quite big enough. I may just get a door key and security gate key made and keep that to a minimum, but I will be looking for the medium.
What's Great:
1. The attachment system. No need fishing around in your seat bag because you will never remember just how you wrapped that Velco, just take it off and use it like a tool box. Also great for walking across a busy bike trail and helping someone with everything in your hand. Also, you can easily swap your bag from a road to mtn bike so you always know you have a properly stocked stash of repair goodies on your bike. No cannibalizing from one to the other until you are stranded on a country road far from home with the sun setting. They sell the mounts by themselves for like $5.
2. The semi-hard side luggage approach. The bag holds it's shape well, and like a camera bag, doesn't let metal tools bang against your frame and seat.
3. The top and bottom compartments which allow delicate things like spare inner-tubes and your bike computer to be stowed away & above the sharp metal bits. Top & bottom because things like screwdrivers and tire irons are L-O-N-G and vertical partitions would just make a bag worthless for carrying such essentials.
4. The water-proof zippers that keep your greenbacks from turning into rust-sodden scraps out of the laundry. I think this bag will float too - at least for awhile. For mountain bikers that would be very nice when crossing rivers and streams - especially with the reflective bits helping you spot it as it floats away.
5. The reflective tape - but they could do so much better here by using an orange reflective coating on the whole back side above the current white reflective stripe.
6. The very thoughtful fold of heavy nylon that acts like a belt for lights with belt-clip attachments. Then you don't have to clutter up your seat-post with drag-inducing and ugly mounts and you can stow the light in the delicate section so if you crash your light won't go skidding into the bushes never to be seen again. It would really suck to crash on the trail and then get clocked by a car as you limp home in the dark.
What's Not Great:
1. It's too small IMHO, and I am a "the bigger the bag the more junk you'll fill it with" guy - but then you have to judge that for yourself.
2. They should slather the back of this bag over with orange reflective stuff so you can ride legally without a normal reflector. Also, how about some reflective bits on the sides? Your lights have 200 degrees of coverage, so why not follow that philosophy here?
3. It should have a pump holder on the bottom with about 3-4 solid inches of Velcro. Pumps are vital and expensive, and they need to be held very securely. The handles on many large duffel bags are held together with about a 4" swath of Velcro - something like that. Maybe even two 3" swaths. More is better here.UPDATE: 4/29/2008
I got home last night from a 25mi ride and the bag was missing - along with my house keys. After calling the emergency # and having my apt complex drill out the deadbolt on the front door my enthusiasm for the mounting system has diminished substantially. My new bag arrived today - a medium - and it should be the perfect size for my use. I have used a very tough cinching Velcro wire bundle tie IN ADDITION TO the supplied Velcro cinch so it's not going anywhere now, but so much for the easy on, easy off convenience.
ATTENTION TOPEAK PRODUCT DESIGNERS: Take a look at the cammed slide release on a Berretta M9/92/96 and use this system to create a simple, bomb-proof, field strippable mounting system that works with NO tools at all and OWN the seat-bag business. The current system is NOT to be trusted with anything valuable, which is pretty much anything one puts in a seatbag.Velcro(R) Brand One-Wrap(R) Cableties 8in Blk 25pkVelcro(R) Brand One-Wrap(R) Cableties 8in Blk 25pk

Bell StowAway Bicycle Seat Bag Review

Bell StowAway Bicycle Seat Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just used the bag for the first time this morning, and here's what I was able to fit inside:
A large cookie
A breakfast bar
A plastic (grocery) bag
A sunblock bottle
My iPod with 2 accessories attached
It was crammed full, but that's quite a bit of stuff. It's not quite large enough to fit a sandwich tupperware, but I think I can fit a sandwich in there as long as it's just in a plastic bag.
The bag attaches easily to the seatpost with a velcro strap, and also has 2 velcro straps on top which can attach to the seat itself. I don't think the bag budged during my 1-hour bikeride even having all that stuff inside. Since it's so easy to attach, I just took the whole bag off and brought it with me after my ride!

M-Wave Bicycle Triangle Frame Bag Review

M-Wave Bicycle Triangle Frame Bag
Average Reviews:

The bag is nice, looks quite durable. However, it has a rigid frame inside that just wouldn't let it fit my Cannondale F5. Also, I'm not sure why, but it has a rather large curved backpack-strap-like piece on it which might get in the way of a water bottle if you have one. The total size of it is pretty big for what it holds, which is a normal sized wallet and keys, cell phone, and thats about it. I gave it to a friend, it fits his bike fine and he likes it. Just take a good look at the angle in the picture and make sure your frame has a similar angle, since it doesn't give you much ability to stretch it to fit.

Fox Racing Fox Seat Bag Review

Fox Racing Fox Seat Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A lot of reviews on FOX seat bags on the internet have been negative and misguided. Most reviews complain and blame FOX for what are user error problems. Things don't just fall out unless you tear the bag, overstuff it, leave it opened, or fail to check its secure. If you throw your bike under water, yes things inside the bag will get wet if submerged. Things will bounce around in the bag if you don't pack it properly.
So after purchasing this product I figure a review was needed because overall this is a decent product.
I previously owned the FOX Small Seat Bag which I used for one biking season. The small bag aside from some mud stains is good as new and served its purpose well...I upgraded to this product the FOX Big Seat Bag simply to get more room for supplies and gear. The small version has two compartments, a big main one and a small credit card slot style one. This Big one has one large compartment, the bottom zippers allow you to expand the size of the bag. I use this big seat bag on a Jamis front suspension off road mountain bike.
Pros:
Capacity: Very generous, if packed properly and/or making use of the expandable feature you can pack everything you need. I currently have a soft case first aid kit (about hand sized), Blackberry smartphone, keys, granola bars, Crank Brothers 18 piece repair tool, tire changing tool kit, and this is with the bag NOT in the expanded configuration. If expanded I could add my wallet, a CO2 air cartridge, spare tube, additional snacks, and a few other tools.
The last one I had lasted a year no problem and is still in good shape, only replaced for more space. The fabric and materials are thin in spots but strong. The bag can stretch slightly and is flexible on the sides. Its unlikely you'll puncture the case if you pack your gear properly. While not waterproof this can easily protect whats inside against mud, puddle splashes and some rain (The seat itself offers some protection of the bag anyways). It can take bouncing around, mud, jarring stops, and still stay intact and attached. The velcro is strong and the zippers are sturdy. If installed properly it'll hold pretty tight although if you don't fully pack it it may move around a bit. Style: Looks good. Being a brand name FOX also makes style and fashion clothing so some style is to be expected. It has reflective pieces on it but could use more. It fits well under the seat and even expanded it doesn't extend out far past the seat or too close to the tire.
Cons:
- FOX could have added a small reflective piece to the bag, although the name FOX does reflect slightly.
-FOX could have added a bottom loop to help further secure the velcro strap. While secure if installed properly I think it would have added another layer of stability.
- You my need to loosen the velcro strap to lower the bag to fully open the compartment for loading/unloading.
- If too loose the little zipper pulls may dangle and hit the tire.
Overall this bag does its job, looks good doing it, and will last a few seasons. Ignore many of the negative reviews based on criteria that doesn't matter. For example the material is soft and there isn't much padding. But this makes the pack lighter and less likely to snap or puncture when filled up. Naturally the bag is protected from sharp direct impacts by the seat, seat post, and seat tire should you crash your bike its may take a hit but unlikely a direct hit. Keep in mind FOX is a brand and you may pay a little more for the brand name, but when its on sale its a great deal. Tip: The bottom has a zipper that unzips allowing you to expand the storage capacity by probably about 35%. I've found that you can unzip this to expand it fully while loading it up with gear. When finished loading, tighten the main bag strap and carefully rezip the expander zipper. This compresses everything together making the bag compact and keeps things from bouncing around inside. So basically I can use the expander option to load stuff in, then close it back up to make it tight and secure. Proper packing of gear and supplies will reduce sway and reduce bouncing around inside the bag.

Topeak Super Tourist Tubular Bicycle Trunk Rack DX with Side Bar for Disc Brake Bikes Review

Topeak Super Tourist Tubular Bicycle Trunk Rack DX with Side Bar for Disc Brake Bikes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this rack about 4 months ago. It arrived earlier than expected and it good condition. All of the parts necessary for installation were included. There were also a couple of extra screws as spares.
I installed it on a TREK 4300. While I don't have disk brakes on the bike, it does have the brackets pre-installed to accept them, so I decided to get the DX type rack so that I could install the discs later.
The installation took less than 10 minutes and went flawlessly. The rack has a nice semi-gloss black finish but the brackets that attach it to the seat tube are silver, so I decided to paint them black as well using a satin black epoxy spray paint that matched perfectly.
The rack is very light weight but is also very sturdy. I haven't gotten a bag for it yet, but Topeak makes bags that will slide into the rack and then lock into place.
I would highly recommend this rack to anyone that has a frame predrilled to accept this sort of accessory.
