(More customer reviews)For an $18 air compressor, I'm surprised how well it actually works. It's a little on the slow side filling up an automobile tire, but I'm not complaining. I was also surprised how small it is. Which I find a good thing. It's looks much bigger in the picture. It also only weighs about 2 lbs. The built-in gauge is accurate within 2 PSI. Something that shocked me. I'm very happy with the Slime. It does exactly what I want it to do, and it's cheap.

Blackburn Mountain Air 3 Pump Review

(More customer reviews)When I first unpacked the pump and started to use it, I was agreeing with the negative review.
It wasn't working. I too have Presta valves and it just would not lock on. Also, my tire ran flat since it wasn't sealing.
I was at the point of demolishing it when I decided, maybe I need to read the manual.

Once I unscrewed the valve cover, and reversed the internal valve and seal and re-secured the cover, it worked like a charm. Man did I feel like an idiot.
Since it gave me so much frustration (all my own fault too, which makes it all the worse), I thought I would share this with everyone else to hopefully save them the trouble.
And remember kids...RTFM!

PS.
I will say though, that the lock/unlock icons are a bit deceiving because it is based on the motion of the VALVE CONNECTION which DOES NOT MOVE. This may have been why the bad review had issues. For that, I do remove a star. Just follow the feel of it and you won't go wrong.
It also does fill the tire rather quickly, faster than I thought it would and the fact that it can mount beside an existing water holster is definitely a bonus.
I recommend using the larger side of the clamp to hold the pump handle so it doesn't slip. when first mounted with larger clamp on the valve connection, the pump handle dropped into my gears nearly causing an epic collision.

(More customer reviews)This compressor will probably work fine for standard car and bicycle tires. In fact, It seems it would work for most higher pressure tires like those on touring/racing bikes. However, if you buy this product because you saw the advertised 300 psi capacity and are one of the few who actually need it to perform above 180 psi, you will be disappointed. My own experience with the compressor involved using it to power a toy rocket that required air pressure to burst plastic discs to provide an impulse to propel the rocket. The compressor would level off at 180 psi and start smoking. The car engine was on and enough voltage was being supplied.
I think the 300 psi advertisement is considered a safe lie by the producers because most consumers won't require enough pressure to uncover the truth. Also, I don't think there are going to be many other compressors sold to work through the cigarette lighter that will achieve their advertised psi limit. 300 psi is a fairly bogus claim, however, considering that 180 is the actual limit. And the longevity of the compressor is suspect because after the initial 180 psi limit was discovered, it immediately started degrading on subsequent attempts.

(More customer reviews)This is a nice little lightweight pump. Like most mini-portable pumps, don't expect it to be able to pump tires to 80 psi. It'll just give you enough pressure to get home and no more. My tests at home demonstrated I can pump it about 60 psi before I got all tired out. If you bend the lock lever 135 degrees (not 90 degrees), the seal between the valve and the pump is quite good, even to 100 psi. However, when I pumped my tire to 100 psi using a hand pump, and tried to top it off with this pump, I could not push any more pressure into the tire.. Using this pump makes you appreciate a floor pump! It does not have a 2 way stroke action. But since you need to brace against something strong, the push-only action is actually beneficial. I recommend you practice pumping at home because your state-of-mind would be quite different somewhere on a road far from home. I found a good stable position is to lay the wheel on the ground and use my multi-tool to shim the head. This allows you to use gravity to push the air in.
I like the feature with the two heads for both valve types. It stores securely on the seatpost waterbottle braze-on's on my bike. With the velcro, never worried about it falling off my bike and had not dropped it once in over 1000 miles of riding. I'm planning to get another for my other bike.
