Pacific Stratus Women's Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Review

When I got the bike I learned that I had to put the entire bike together, which was not fun. The directions were very unclear and did not help at all. Once I finally put the bike together I was exicited to take it for a ride only to find out that after ten mins of riding the bike seat is very uncomfortable. Now I am looking for a replacement seat. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE BIKE TO ANYONE.

Mongoose Men's Blackcomb Bicycle (Silver) Review

Mongoose Men's Blackcomb Bicycle (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had my Blackcomb for two and a half years. I've changed out the knobbies for street treads, put on a more comfortable seat, and a set of raised handlebars, essentially making a hybrid bike out of it. For what it is, a non-pro bike, it's been great. It has push shifters that have only required occasional adjustment, and disc brakes that work surprisingly well. The only problem I had with the brakes was when I tried adjusting them myself without reading the manual. Clean and reseat the pads and give them time to break in again and they work fine. The suspension works, as in it's not the bouncing springing feeling a lot of cheap bikes have, and it tracks straight.
It handles well, although I don't use it for much off road other than traveling down gravel roads, and the suspension and wide range of gears is nice for hills and bumps. Yes, it is a "store bike" and in the eyes of the serious mountain bike crowd therefore not worthy of consideration; it's certainly heavier than most pro bikes, but they also cost three times as much minimum. It's actually held up well and outlasted my Trek 4500. I wouldn't hesitate to hop on this bike and ride it where I need to, and I may end up buying another when this one finally wears out.

Avenir Nylon Bicycle Cover (Mountain Bike) Review

Avenir Nylon Bicycle Cover (Mountain Bike)

I purchased this cover a couple of months ago because I was using my Mt. Bike for lunch time rides at work and I could not keep it inside. I did not want the bike to sit outside in the rain and other dampness. I was surprised when I recieved this cover that it was so compact and light weight. I thought it might be flimsy, but it has proven to be sturdy and fits my bike well. It has stayed on through high winds and heavy rain without any problems. It's easy to take on and off and the carrying case is attached to the cover so it doesn't get lost. I honestly don't know how it could be any better for my needs. I just ordered one for my touring bike because it would fit easily in a pannier.

Huffy 26-Inch Ladies DS-3 Dual Suspension Bike (Amethyst) Review

Huffy 26-Inch Ladies DS-3 Dual Suspension Bike (Amethyst)
Average Reviews:

I don't normally provide reviews for items, but had such a disappointing experience with this product and Amazon that I just had to write about it. My wife and I were looking for an inexpensive mountain bike as a birthday present for our oldest granddaughter (she just turned 14). We found the Huffy 26-Inch Ladies DS-3 Dual Suspension bike and it looked like it fit the bill. We ordered it from Amazon with 5-7 business day shipping on the 26th of May. It arrived on June 6th, the day after our daughter's birthday party (I would chosen faster shipping, but the cost was exorbitant, and given that Amazon HQ's is in Seattle, I didn't expect it to be shipped from the East Coast!). At any rate, it was dumped on our driveway, so that my wife when she arrived home, had to lift the heavy box and move it out of the way. The box was torn, and had parts sticking out of the box, although not too much. When I had time a couple of days later to put the bicycle together, I was able to open the box and take out the components (there were various subassemblies that had already been put together), and it appearred that there was no significant damage, although there were small scratches on various components, and the parts were all very dusty. With all the sub-assemblies out, I started to look them over and was looking for the assembly instructions. There were none! I checked the box and packaging thoroughly. Still no instructions or owner manual. I contacted Amazon by phone. The person on the other end of the line told me that I could return the item. The box was apart, the present was already late, this was not the answer I wanted, and I was not willing to wait for another 2 weeks to receive an item that shouldn't have arrived the way it did. Moreover, all I wanted was instruction on how to put the bicycle together. I was eventually able to slowly figure out how the components went together with a largely unhelpful instruction guide that I managed to find on the Huffy website. I did take the bicycle over to my daughters house and my granddaughter is supposedly riding it, but I have no idea how well it will hold up.
All in all this was this was not a very pleasant experience either with Amazon, or Huffy. While my granddaughter is riding the bike, I wouldn't not recommend purchasing a bike from Huffy or through Amazon, based on my experience.

Smith and Wesson Tactician 26-Inch Bicycle Review

Smith and Wesson Tactician 26-Inch Bicycle

I purchased this bike and wish I had a S&W handgun to put me out of my misery. 1st after putting the bike together I took it for a ride and the nuts and bolts that hold the handle bars together started to come lose. I tighten them down and took off again. after about 30 minutes of riding the same thing. After two days of riding I carried a allen key with me. Less than a week later the left peddle breaks off and of course I order another set from amazon and guess what? The dang things don't fit. Well I ordered another pair and as you might have guesses they don't fit. I will tell you that I ride in Afghanistan but the roads here and conditions are no different than the roads in the states. If I rode on dirt trails or even gravel I would dismiss this as my fault. I would not by this bike again or take on for free.

Giro Indicator Sport Bike Helmet Review

Giro Indicator Sport Bike Helmet

I bought this helmet last September. Excellent fit, very comfortable, light, and good ventilation. It's protection ability was tested yesterday when I hit a curb wrong and went flying - cracked the helmet & recieved 16 stiches to my eye but no concusion or other head injury... which really surprised the emergency room doctor. I'm buying the exact same model today as my replacement.

The Giro Indicator's confident style and superior ventilation are coupled with a modern design that complements every type of rider. As a result, the Indicator helmet is the perfect choice for riding downtown, up a technical climb, and everything in between. The helmet is built using Giro's in-mold construction, which fuses the helmet's outershell with the impact-absorbing EPS liner. Not only does this reinforce both layers, but the "exoskeleton" also allows Giro to engineer helmets that are lighter, more durable, and better ventilated. The helmet also includes 20 built-in vents, which thrust cool, fresh air over and around the rider's head while forcing heat and stale air out. And riders will love the helmet's snap-fit visor, which shields your eyes on bright, sunny days.
The Indicator bike helmet is carefully sculpted and size-specific, with an easy-to-adjust Acu Dial fit system. The helmet--which adjusts between 21.25 and 24 inches--weighs only 0.62 pounds and complies with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's safety standards for bicycle helmets.

About Giro Working late nights in his garage, designer/bike racer Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985. Friends at NASA helped tune the final helmet shape and vent placement, and the result was the Giro Prolight, a sleek, stylish helmet that offered a superior fit while still meeting the industry's toughest safety standards. In addition, the helmet weighed half as much as traditional helmets, making it extremely comfortable. In the years since, Giro has advanced its helmets, which are extremely popular among progressive, performance-oriented riders on dirt, pavement, and snow. Giro helmets are now worn by millions of riders, cyclists, skiers, and snowboarders around the world. Giro is based in Scotts Valley, California.

Quality bike for the price. Has just about everything you would look for in a mountain bike costing hundreds more. The pedals are plastic and need to be upgraded but overall a nice purchase. It comes about 90% assembled; you need to mount the quick release front tire, seat, handle bars and attach the brake cables; it took about 20 minutes. There are instructions in the owners manual and the tools needed to put it together.

This bike is the same exact bike as the Polaris RMK also found on Amazon There are reviews listed for the Polaris RMK with a rating of 4 1/2 stars, so those review and ratings will give you an idea about this bike as they are the same bike except for different paint and names. (see my review on the Polaris RMK)
They are both made by Ming Cycle in Taiwan and distributed by an American
company---Cycle Force Group. Both bikes are the Mings top of the line dual suspension mountain
bike with disk front brake and upgraded wheels(rims)and 19"frame. Generally The Polaris is getting
better reviews and ratings (different web sites) than the other dual suspension mountain bikes that
are under 300 dollars including Mongoose.
This bike is a great buy at this price (WalMart 199 dollars) and is the same bike as the higher priced Polaris.
Also at this time the Victory is selling for 189 dollars at Meijer's----thats where I bought mine
and I will follow up with a complete review when I get the Victory on the road.
Dec 8, 2010
I received the bike, very well packaged and undamaged, It was easy to put together, only had to attach front wheel,seat,handlebars,front/rear reflectors and front brake caliper. All cables were attached and I didn't have to make any adjustments. The bike rides smooth, shifts smooth and quality of construction is beyond my expectations. I cant believe the upgraded alloy wheels and 19" frame--usually only found on much more expensive bikes. My only complaints would be----cheap pedals--and cheap tires. This bike and the Polaris RMK (same bike with different colors) have to be the best dual suspension mountain bikes for for under 300 dollars. I give it a five star for value for the money----As the word gets out, I wouldn't be surprised to see the price on these bikes go way up after the first of the year, The Polaris is already priced higher and still going up---and the victory is the same bike for less!!!!G R E A T D E A L
12-12-10 ----Right now the Polaris is selling for less than the Victory on Amazon and Miejers. The prices fluctuate back and forth on both bikes. Anyways they are the same bike and you get your choice of colors and the price will always be lower for one of them.

Pacific Exploit - Front Suspension Boy's/Men's Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this bike for my son. I am an extremely experienced cyclist and bike mechanic, so the challenges I overcame with this weren't too serious for me. For example, the bike I received was missing a front axle nut. I replaced the entire axle with a hollow one and a quick release but you could imagine that kind of thing being a pain for a normal person. Some details weren't to my liking and I fixed them. I sawed off a bit off the seat post and a bit off the handlebar ends. This allows the seat post to be set as low as possible for my little rider. I'm no absurd hipster with the handlebar cutting, but having sensible shoulder width bars is always good and these were the normal too-big-for-an-adult mountain bike width. Definitely not ideal for a kid. The wheels were pretty true, but I still felt it necessary to true them up. One of the cable housing routings was about 20% too long and I cut that to the right size. Then it started to look like a bike I'd like to own if I was a kid. One minor problem is that the kickstand is really stiff. Could be worse. At least it's mounted well and it exists at all. On the other hand, the biggest problem with this bike for a young kid is that it is heavy. Very heavy. That frame and those forks are cheap by adding cheap metal. It's a strong bike, but it may be tough for a smaller kid to handle. My kid also had some trouble with the hand strength necessary to pull the brakes. Older kids probably will do fine.

The front tire tube blew when I pumped it up. And an Allen wrench is needed to tighten the handle bars, which I did not have. Web should be clearer about what tools are required and they should include the Allen wrench.
So I had to buy a new tube and Allen wrench to finish this. That was pretty annoying, but otherwise it was easy to assemble.

Schwinn Midmoor Men's Hybrid Bike (700c Wheels) Review

Schwinn Midmoor Men's Hybrid Bike (700c Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've ridden this bike for 4-5 months, a few miles a day. It's a nice (fast!) commute bike, best for roads (but it's fun to drift around on dirt), and it has good, quality parts. I haven't yet gotten the derailleur set correctly, but for the most part I don't care and I'm too busy. It hit the good-enough point and I'm content.
Coming off of a cheap WalMart mountain bike, this thing is heaven. If anybody's looking for a step up from a basic ride-it-sometimes bike, this one is nice. If you're still only going to ride it sometimes, then why bother?
It's a little heavy to be called a road bike, which is probably why it's not, and I'm still wondering why exactly there needs to be a suspension (which must have added a fair share of useless weight). Also, the handlebar isn't as adjustable as most would like, and if you're 6' tall and one of those people who likes their legs to be fully extended when pedaling, it might not be possible on this bike.

Diamondback Trace Comp Dual Sport Bike (2011 Model, 700c Wheels) Review

Diamondback Trace Comp Dual Sport Bike (2011 Model, 700c Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used to ride bmx and mt bikes in the 80s and 90s, took a long break and now in my 40's, wanted to get back into bicycling again. Didn't want a roadbike because on occasions, I still would rather jump curbs or ride over obstacles rather than around it. I like the hardcore high tech mountain bikes available these days but not committed to spend that much money and wanted something that's good on the road as well. Looked at hybrids and wasn't too impressed with the inexpensive ones and couldn't justify spending too much with the well known popular brands.
Then comes Diamondback's "Dual Sport" Trace which fits everything I need plus the latest suspension fork, and disc brakes at a reasonable price, that can be ridden on the streets but can go on light trails. Tough enough for urban streets with potholes, curbs, stairs, and still manageable on hardpack or paved trails.
Now the suspension fork isn't the latest state of the art product but it makes the ride very smooth and comfortable. Mine doesn't have the "lock out" but Im fine setting the "preload" to max which I weigh 190lbs and handles the stairs, curbs , when I want to take shortcuts on my path. On extreme downhills, it can have a bit of a pogo effect but on moderate ones, it still offer control and confidence.
This is the first time Ive had disc brakes on a bicycle and LOVE IT that it's hard for me to think of going back to traditional types. It's so easy to modulate the brakes right from the start where the other kinds, I had to customize the settings.
The frame and components are a bit on the heavy side, but it's just fine for my type of recreational, leisure paced, but on occasion want to be "young and daring". Besides, I can easily upgrade the parts in the future as needed but as a re-entry bike, this is just fine.
Otherwise, I can't stop riding the DB Trace and find excuses just to go for a quick ride.
The DB Trace makes riding a bicycle easy and fun again.

The Diamondback Trace Comp doesn't make the roads and trails easier, but it does help make your ride so. Start with a butted aluminum dual sport frame and throw in double wall 700c wheels, and a Shimano Alivio 8-speed drive train and rapid fire shifters. Take that and add in Hayes HMX-4 mechanical disc brakes to make stopping a piece of cake. And the piece de resistance - a SR Suntour NVX-MLO fork with 75 mm of travel and a mechanical lock out. Try a Diamondback Trace Comp and see where your legs can take you.

Schwinn Miramar Men's Comfort Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Review

Schwinn Miramar Men's Comfort Bike (26-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered this because I'd seen another Amazon review saying the assembly was easy, and I was happy to find this is true for me too. Since there are no directions, I thought I'd do my part by giving other buyers a couple of tips. You will need a couple of hex wrenches -- I already owned one of those little Craftsman sets with all the sizes attached to the plastic grip handle. You will need the inch measurement ones, which is the set with the orange handle. This is the only tool required. You will need a pair of household scissors, too, and an air pump for the tires.
The bike will arrive with the handlebars detached and folded over by the cables and strapped to the bike frame with a plastic fastener strip. The front wheel and the seat post (with the seat already on) are also on the side of the frame. Cut the fastener strips off. To put the front wheel on, find the axle in the little cardboard box, put it through the wheel after uncrewing the axle cap so you can put it through the wheel. Now just put the axle through the front fork and flip the end lever on the axle to hold the front wheel on.
Put the seat post in, and then turn the lever on the band which adjusts the seat until you have the height and direction of the seat where you want it, and lock down the lever.
To put the handlebars on, first take the protective black cap off the end of the handlebar post. You do need to hold the handlebars just the right way because the cables are already attached, which is good in the long term. It took me about three minutes of trying several positions until I figured out how to slip the handlebar post in, but eventually the light bulb came on over my head and it was simple. Once they were in, it was a snap to put the handlebars where I wanted them. I took the protective little black cap off the adjustment nut at the top of the stem, and used the Craftsman allen wrench. Turning the nut makes the bottom of the handlebar stem 9down in the bike frame) expand and this holds the handlebars in position. After adjustment, put the protector cap back over the nut to keep the rain and dirt off the nut.
Now pump up both tires, and you are almost done. Now you just have to fasten the front brake cable. Use a smaller allen wrench from the Craftsman set to slightly loosen the nut which holds the cable, and thread the cable through the little holder bar on the left, and then put the cable back where it originally was, and tighten it. You can look at the back brakes to see how it goes.
The pedals are in the cardboard box with the axle for the front wheel, and they are labeled L and R so just match them to the L and R stickers on the crank arms, and screw in the pedals. You are done!
The whole thing did take me an hour, but that's because I had to figure it out. Now that you have the steps, you can do it all in half and hour, easy. Happy riding!

Bike came, double boxed, very well protected. I was amazed how easily it went together. All the major parts (brakes, shifter, etc) were mounted and pre-adjusted.
The kickstand is aluminum with a nice hard plastic 'foot' on the end. It is more than adequate for supporting the bike and much nicer than some of the black steel ones like you see on Diamondback or Mongoose.
No regrets here!

I ordered this bike for my wife and it's a good one for the price. It's sturdy and easy to put together, however the front gear shift broke while I was adjusting it. I've ordered a new one and she can ride it in the meantime with just the rear gears, but even those are temperamental until I can adjust the front one. I put on a rear kickstand as the center stand seemed to get in the way a lot. Also, this frame is most suited for a taller female.
